My old 4 dive synology just failed

I primarily used it to backup computers in the home, upload to one drive as further backup and to play a few videos on my TVs or my cell phone. I have a rack ubiquiti switch so considering a rack device.

Should I stick with another synology or recommendations on a different direction.

well unifi just came out with their Pro NAS. Budget, Rack mount(yes or no) Space, amount of storage needed?

I don’t have a specific budget but I’ll say 2k
Probably prefer rack, I currently use 4 tb but planning on 10

How much total space would like to have? Do you need compute needs and storage? Lastly what depth rack do you have access to? Network or full size?

Did you love your synology ? And do you already know it would do everything you want well ?

there can be way to save a bit of money (for good work if it would be your first time doing it), but a lot of the cost will end up in the 4x large HDD regardless.

There is a bit of an hobby-learning to learn to go homemade, as pre-made solution will do your usecase perfectly fine for a somewhat fair markup.

Love is too strong a word

It worked

I use the drive backup and plex and upload to one drive to further backup but that’s pretty much it.

Sorry for being vague but not sure

The 5pcs in our house are all computers I put together from parts and able to trouble shoot that so if it’s on that level of difficulty then I should be fine.

If it’s going to need constant tinkering then I don’t want that
