Hello experts.

My GPU died and I'm totally lost in the jungle. What is the fastest card I can put in my old machine without having a huge bottleneck?

I5 2500k @ 4,6
Sabertooth P67 (only has PCI-e 2 x 16)
12gb RAM

My monitor is 1080p 60hz.

Depends on how you define, "Huge." For 1080p gaming though, I'd think a GTX1060 would be fine.

I think the OP meant being bottlenecked by PCI-E 2.0.
Not an issue at all.

CPU-wise, a 4.6GHz Sandy is plenty fine. A 4c/8t Sandy would be better, but 4c/4t is fine.

You aren't bottlenecked with the pci-e port to a point that would matter at all.

PCI-e 2.0 x16 is ~ to 3.0 x8.

Not much of a limitation. Maybe a couple % on the very fastest cards out there.

I agree a 1060 is the way to go if $200-300 is your budget (only the 6gb model)
(Unless you have a freesync monitor - then absolutely consider a RX580 8gb)

For $100-$200 you should consider a 1050ti 4gb or RX560 4gb

For $400-500 you should consider a RX Vega 56 8gb or 1070 8gb

Thanks, exactly what I needed. I thought I would be way more bottlenecked by the mobo and CPU. Now off to shopping!
