Here I am once again, like every couple years, to ask the advice of the [H]ivemind for builds. This build will be for my brother, who's PC is now far too ancient to play any new games the way he would like to.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming and more gaming.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1200-$1500
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

Oklahoma, USA.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Case, Mobo, CPU, SSD, HDD, GPU, PSU, RAM, Blueray drive
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
All peripherals, monitors, etc.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Probably not. I've done it before but not necessary for him.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1920x1080 and it's going to be used on many different devices. 24" monitor, 32" tv, 155" projector.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAP
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
Only thing I know he needs for sure is onboard wifi for when he moves his PC around the house. No onboard GPU.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
He says he can get a copy of Windows from his school. 64bit.

***EDIT***
So my brother informed me that he no longer requires onboard wifi anymore which should help lower costs and raise options.
Also, he has Amazon prime though I've usually always used Newegg.

Ok so I did a little research but I know this list can be tweaked by you experts. I may be going a little overboard on some of these parts however.

Asus Z170-A

Intel Core i5-6600K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117561
G.SKILL Ripjaw 16GB(2x8) DDR4 3000
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231878
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147360
Seagate Barracuda 7200 3TB HDD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148844
Seasonic X Series X650 Gold
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088

With these items the total is at about $890. I would really like to get him a 980TI but at $600 his budget would be capped unfortunately. And there's still a need for a case which I'm not sure of yet. Maybe the lower 4gb regular 980? Or a 970 or equivalent AMD card. I haven't been keeping up too much lately with hardware technology.

Thanks again, guys.

Since you're more than likely not going to overclock, no reason to spend the extra $40 for the 6600K when your brother will be just fine with the regular 6600:

That particular Asus motherboard has so far been shown to be unreliable. I recommend the $41 cheaper AsRock Z170 Pro4 instead due to the better user reviews:

You do not need DDR4 3000 RAM as the $20 cheaper DDR4 2666 RAM is more than enough:

Spend the extra $10 more for a more reliable Toshiba Hard drive:

For the GPU, at most, go with the GTX 980 4GB. Though for bang for the buck value, the GTX 970 is the better option.

As for the case, the two cheapest options I would recommend are:
$66 - NZXT S340 Black ATX Case
$70 - Corsair Graphite Series 230T Black ATX Case

But if he wants a better quality, cooling, or looking cases, I recommend these:
$90 - NZXT Source 530 Full Tower Case
$100 - Thermaltake Core V51 Black ATX Case
$100 - Corsair Carbide Series 500R ATX Case
$100 - Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower Case
$110 - Phanteks Enthoo Pro PH-ES614P_WT White Full Tower Case
$103 - Antec 1100 V2 ATX Case
$110 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Full Tower ATX Case
$110 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001BK Black Full Tower ATX Case
$120 - Corsair Vengeance Series C70 Gunmetal Black ATX Case
$120 - Corsair Obsidian Series 450D ATX Case
$136 - NZXT Phantom 530 Black Full Tower ATX Case
$140 - Corsair Obsidian Series 750D ATX Case
$140 - Corsair Graphite Series 730T ATX Case
$150 - NZXT Phantom 630 White Windowed Full Tower ATX Case
$150 - Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Full Tower Case
$158 - NZXT Phantom 630 Gunmetal Full Tower Case
$170 - Corsair Graphite Series 600T Arctc White Full Tower Case
$180 - Corsair Graphite Series 760T Black Full Tower Case
$180 - Corsair Graphite Series 760T White Full Tower Case
180 - Corsair Graphite 780T Black ATX Full Tower Case
$190 - Corsair Graphite 780T White ATX Full Tower Case
$230 - Phanteks Enthoo Primo Full Tower Case

Oh Dangman, you always come in clutch for me over the years. Haha! Thanks again for your input.

Ok so apparently he already bought the motherboard. I've seen lots of great reviews though so fingers crossed.*

I switched the HDD to the Toshiba you mentioned. Also changed the RAM to the Corsair.
I found him the Corsair 750D for $125 plus a $25 mail in rebate so it seemed like a steal at basically $100(i hate rebates but whatever).

Went with the EVGA 980 4gb and the CM Hyper 212 Evo for the CPU Cooler.

Came to exactly $1500 with no taxes and free shipping from Prime. Score.

I'll be back here once I get the build started if I have any problems. Thanks a bunch!

No prob. Although, even at $125, that 750D is still a good deal.

Good luck with the build!
