New Doom Movie Will Have a Female Lead

Don't be so sensitive boys, they seem to know their market.

The demographic audience for any Doom movie is going to be at least 90% men in their 30s.

Switching the lead to a female and stating up front its going to be B movie grade should excite all of you.

They can now dress her in impractical marine armor that leaves her mid rift exposed.... and hey keep watching cause there is a good chance one of those demons is going to on accident claw her top off. Sounds like some real womens lib style casting to me. /s (not sure if that is required or if its intended or not either)

the part that made me chuckle is if you used any other color there, it would be 5 o'clock news worthy, outrage worthy of people yelling "so racist!"

Spoiler - she is white. I don't see how the actress color has anything to do with this though. It's going to be a turd. They could cast the chick with the three knockers from Total Recall, one shoots lasers, one shoots money, and the middle one shoots baby oil for impromptu girly girl oil wrestling, and the movie would still suck.
Yeah, but at least I would still watch it. ;)

I thought it was. I hated it.

I did like the new one, but it was not really BSG to me. To me: Ty is a straightlaced respectable black man that epitomizes what a military officer should be, not a one eyed drunk white guy with very questionable decision making skills. Boomer is a top notch black male pilot, not some homicidal hot asian cylon chic with baby issues, Starbuck is not some dirtbag white trash ho, he is a lady's man with a taste for gambling. It always annoys me when they ignore cannon in a show for no reason I can think of past SJW nonsense. I tend not to watch such things myself either. Only watched BSG because it was on Netflix for a while and I was bored one weekend. Turned out to be pretty good outside of the religious weirdness that just got weirder as the series progressed.

Now, who's that guy who called me out saying I didn't have the facts? Where is he?

The actresses name is right in the OP. She's Scottish and very white.

But, uh... of all the concerns you could have about a straight-to-streaming Doom movie featuring a female lead... why would her ethnicity matter?

Because any opportunity to make a joke about SJWs LOLOLOLLOLOLLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Honestly, this movie is going to suck no matter what gender the lead is. Great concept for a video game, not a great concept for a movie.

I imagine the gender swap, which I am ambivalent too, is just so they can drum up SOME buzz for this thing.

Perhaps, I don't suppose anyone would be saying anything other than, "meh whateva", if it were not for this odd casting choice.

Doomguy doesn't have lines. He'll be CGI or a faceless stunt dude. He is not a character, he's a force of nature with a rocket launcher

She'd play Olivia Pierce, who was the main character of Doom 2016, alongside Hayden-bot

Well next step is to make it porn. Then they might actually get a viewership. I'm not watching male or female...besides as I recall in original Doom all we saw were the character's hands.

His face was in the middle of the hud. It got more beat up the lower your health went. Thought that was just the coolest thing back then.

Yep comes back to me now. I keep meaning to play it some, wonder what it'll be like after so many years...I sure remember wasting a lot of time on it.

While the movie heading direct to video may not look like a sign of confidence, there are plenty of examples of really solid action and horror titles bypassing theaters in recent years. The 2005 Doom movie was also a financial dud for Universal, so they while they may recognize they have a potentially valuable brand name with the series, they might be trying to reduce the risk this time around.

straight to video 99% of the time equals total turd and no confidence on behalf of the studio...

Because you have to get all your bases covered.

It should de a midget, asian, african-american, latino transgender with a dishability.

I could be wrong but so far it seems like Universal has totally failed with their monster universe reboots(although my wife seem to be the only two who enjoyed wolfman). That being said and this new development definitely puts some doubt about how good this'll be. Hope I'm wrong.

A Celtic fiddling, one legged, quadriplegic, highland dancing, left-handed, one armed, native, single mother, obese, cross-eyed, autistic, still-born bagpipe technician with an abusive husband/boyfriend/father and you have Doom Canada.. To truly reflect what Canadian society looks like, of course.

I don't have a problem with some kind of Doom-Chick, but that's because there's zero potential for this film to be anything more than a steaming pile of shit. Might as well add boobs, boobs make everything better.

When a movie looks like it'll flop, just put a female lead. Or in Ghostbusters case, put four. Because as we all know men would rather watch women than men. It's just that Hollywood doesn't understand that she has to be pretty for this to work. Why you think Lara Croft worked so well?

If I had to guess, I would say it's a trademark/copyright issue. Don't movie studios lose rights to a property after a certain amount of time if they don't use it? I remember them saying that about some superhero IP awhile back IIRC. They are probably just punting it to extend the clock.

I like Doom and I like woman and this one is attractive. I think I'll watch this regardless of how bad it is. Who doesn't like women kicking ass? If it's got demons and it's set on Mars and she's a marine then that's enough for me. It's not like Doom was exactly strong on plot or the main character development, it's about beating demons back to hell.

Is this for real? Does the chick in that picture look like someone who should be in a "Doom" movie? She looks better suited to be on an episode of the dorky Supergirl series. Guess I better make sure I'm stocked up on popcorn and bubblegum for this. As far as the first one sucking balls, I kinda liked it, I thought the atmosphere was "Doomish" and Dwayne did a decent Doom job. Now this one, just by looking at the pic of the chick alone, definitely looks to suck some doomballs.

So all this crybaby bullshit over a DTV garbage movie? It will be crap regardless of who plays the role of "doom guy" if it will have anything to do with the games at all. I used to debate my english teacher whether "guy" is gender neutral, maybe he was right and it is. Either way I don't give a shit about this movie.

Truth be told, I only watch DTV movies if there is an attractive female lead or at least major character in it. So this actually makes this more interesting rather than less. What can I say, it's a guilty pleasure.

The only thing that could make this royal P.O.S. worse would be to have M. Night Shyamalan-a-ding-dong in on the script writing and direction.
