New Conroe benches from Victor...

This is why I may not go for Conroe afterall. These Presler price drops are very attractive. I don't need much power, just enough to get 99fps constant in CS 1.6  and general smooth usage.
Then a $250 Pentium 950 would be *perfect* for you. As long as you have decent airflow through your case.

It is a 95w part , not as hot as you might expect ;)

I think I'll build myself a Core comp too since I'll soon sell CPU's I'll sure as hell buy wantever I want. I may start becomeing a neutral fan if I start liking intels again. Hell I'll just be a intel and AMD fan equaly if its not all just hype in the end.

whoever gives me the best performance for the dollar.. call me a slut. :D

Will 950 seriously be dropped to around $250? that is cheap as candy. However I live in UK, but it will still be cheap compared to today of course. How will a 950 compare to XP2400+? :)

Yes, but not until Conroe intorduction where hte Pentium 960 will be equal in price of the Conroe E6600 of 316US.

It seems that Conroe will be released at lower prices than Presler?

Wich says something about how well Intel's 65nm process is running now ;)

Yes judging by the roadmaps, by H2 2007 I would expect Ridgefield 6MB which is a die shrunk Conroe on the 45nm process with 6MB cache. Also on this process, I would expect monolithic Quad cores processors codename for that if I can remember correctly is Bloomfield. Instead of the Dual Die configruation that Kentsfield/Clovertown/Tigerton seem to be.

And in 2008, I would expect the introduction of Nehalem on the 45nm which should include that CSI thing hopefully Intel is working on and hopefully an IMC as well.

I well go way out on limb and say I believe Nehalem will be a six issue relative of the Itanic. Using the russian tech they bought.

Intel Corporation is buying Russian companies Elbrus and UniPro which develop processors for supercomputers, Vedomosti business daily reports. Intel already announced that specialists who worked in these companies are now listed as its staff members.

Of course its tech will show up or Intel was stupid for spending the time and money :) Note some of the Pentium-M team are Russian Jews as well.

Yes it will and I thought it likely their were Russian jews involved. Intel is very much interested in the Compliler used on the E2K its very fast and it converts to x86

I hope so.

I now were going off topic abit. But Amder's are talking about future cpu's to compete with conroe. The sad thing is we know much more about future intel than AMD.

Conroe is showing us the new direction Intel is heading with it having 4 issue. I really believe itanium isn't going to go away and a desktop derivative is very likely. I said 6 issue core to stay conservative but it may be more.

I read not to long ago about the compiler on the E2k and from what i read it was incrediable to say the least. I have tried to find that article but haven't had any luck . I thought I book marked it but I guess not. If intel can get a 6 issue core working with low ghz cores its a big plus for us all.x86

This is what we now about future cores from both companies.

AMD SS on SOI
AMD dual gates
AMD Terrahertz transitors.

Intel substraite ?????

Intel terrahertz transistors with HighK metal gates
Intel 3D gates
Intel Russian compiler tech.
4 issue+ cores

I didn't include Z ram or suck things as the tech exist its a matter of weather or not its used. Please add more to the list for both AMD and Intel cores.

You're comparing current Presler prices to future Conroe prices right? I'm positive that once Conroe debuts, we'll see a huge price slash on all older parts.

Lowest Conroe will be = Highest Presler non EE in price when Conroe launches.

Any idea how 950 will compare to the low to medium-end Conroes? Will it be better to get a low-end Conroe for Vista for example? I'm not a gamer at all. But I want a very smooth Windows experience when multi-tasking etc. The only game will be CS 1.6.
