I got the email this morning announcing the the new CCT (Cisco Certified Technician) exams. The Data Center one sounds like a good compliment to the normal CCENT/CCNA studies. I am not sure about the TelePresence one. Seems like something you should only get if you work with a company that uses it.

The Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) training and certification programs are designed for technicians who perform onsite support and maintenance of Cisco infrastructure for Routing and Switching, TelePresence and Data Center solutions. The CCT certifications validate the job skills of hardware field engineers who perform onsite support, maintain Cisco equipment and effectively work with the Cisco Technical Assistance Center to resolve onsite support issues. The modular online training can be conveniently accessed when needed, maximizing flexibility for technicians serving customers in the field.

well considering to recertify they say pass both ICND (CCNA) I'm going to guess they put them on par / just short of the CCNA.

These would be under the CCNA and CCENT, somewhat. These are for technicians. Most likely someone who is performing remote support. At Siemens we called them "smart hands" techs. They would assist us when configuring devices remotely. We'd have them get us console access, or enter some commands to enable management on a device. The knowledge these certs teach is very helpful for remote techs or operations people.

The recertify stuff also lists CCIE. It's a big list of stuff you can take that just renews it. The first thing on the renew list is "Pass any current CCT exam (RSTECH, DCTECH or TPTECH)".

It looks to be below CCENT even. Doesn't get into any routing protocols etc, but ensures knowledge of basic operations relevant to Cisco gear, from identifying components, to undersstanding what they'd connect to, and the host / tertiary systems you'd use over the course of interacting with the stuff, like TFTP.

I like Vito's 'smart hands' description.

Yah Cisco! Keep adding certs underneath CCNP and I'll keep getting more valuable. :D
