I'vs been browsing benchmarks. Wondering what new AMD/Nvidia cards are comparable performance to a GTX 780?

GTX 1050Ti Maybe.. RX 470 is faster and RX 460 weaker so nothing in AMD side fit that range..

A 780 would indeed be somewhere in between a 1050ti on the low side and a 470 on the high side. Closer to the 470, though, as there's a big gap between those two.

Nvidia GTX 1060 should be it, with a little boost.

With Nvidia it's very easy: when the type number goes up, the model number goes down, but performance is usually slightly better for higher-end cards.

Looking at Videocardbenchmark.net scores:

So GTX 780 (8,011) -> GTX 970 (8,632) -> GTX 1060 (9,007).

and GTX 680 (5,713) -> 770 (6,134) -> 960 (5,897) -> 1050 (5,691) / 1050 Ti (5,988)

Minimum card I'd recommend is a 1060 (6GB) anyway, but if the OP is selling his 780, I'd actually recommend the 980Ti (used).
You will want to 'over-spec' slightly so you can maintain high floor FPS for your 144hz panel anyway.

A used GTX 980 Ti for around $300 USD (give or take a few dollars) is the true price/performance leader right now.

If you overclock a 780 it will match a gtx970.
A factory overclocked 1050ti will be close to a stock 780 in newer games..
A gtx1060 6gb is very close to a gtx980 and 20% faster than a 780.

on the AMD side a 470 is a little slower than a gtx970 and should be close to a 780.

This is with newer games.

A 470 is a bit faster than a 780ti. Hell, a 470 is right next to a 1060 6gb. As for Kepler, Kepler is dead!

Sorry I was thinking 780ti. I would say generally a 780 is about a 1050ti x gaming card (overclocked gtx960 4gb) or stock AMD 380X.
