So I will dual boot vista and ubuntu.

I haven't really used a desktop in. . . 6-8 years? So I don't know what the normal OS/HD organization is because I'm used to only have one HD.

I'm thinking it would be best to get a 2 small fast drives for my OSes and at least one large harddrive for my non-OS files.

Could I get a few other harddrives and do RAID? I probably won't, just curious.

So, main question in topic: three hard drives?

Thanks.

Most people will raid0 two smaller drives for the OS or buy a raptor.

For data, 1tb drives are about $99 now so that's all you need. Data backup is another story.

w.r.t. RAID be careful what you plan todo IF you want that RAID drive to then host both OS's
