New build - can't get mobo to see M2 drive

Putting together a new pc for a friend and trying to do a fresh install of everything, but I can't get the motherboard to see the Samsung Evo 860 M2 drive. Any suggestions?

Is the slot set to nvme mode hard?
Stock should be auto, both, etc but if it doesn’t see it it probably isn’t.

That board has two M.2 sockets. Only the primary M.2 (M2A) supports SATA drives. When a SATA drive is in this socket, the two ASMedia SATA ports (ASATA3 0 and ASATA3 1) are disabled and must be detached.
