Networking question about windows PE/Backup and restore environment

I noticed something strange that has me baffled when I am in the Windows 7 PE environment. I am working with the system image backup and restore and it can do this just fine over the network but if I go into the command line things look odd. It shows an APIPA address and nothing about my subnet or dns server, default gateway etc..

Can somebody explain to me why it does this and how it can still communicate with shares on my network?

That does look odd. Have you tried ipconfig release/renew and maybe restarting your network card?

Everything works fine, no need to do that. I was just wondering why this is.

You don't need gateway to talk on a local network segment. If your other machines are on the same subnet but don't have APIPA addresses, they're probably using IPV6 to talk.
