Does anyone have any information about this Fry's 8 port gigabit switch?
The Fry's FR-8PTGSW

Eight (8) 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet ports
Supports Auto-Negotiation for 10/100/1000Mbps and duplex mode
Supports Auto-MDI/MDI-X for each port
Supports Full/Half duplex transfer mode for 10 and 100Mbps
Supports Full-duplex transfer mode for 1000Mbps
Supports IEEE 802.1p Priority Queuing, up to 4 queues
Full wire speed reception and transmission
Store-and-Forward switching method
Supports 4K MAC addresses
Extensive front-panel diagnostic LEDs
Jumbo frame support (9720 Bytes in 1000Mbps only)
IEEE 802.3x flow control for full duplex
Back pressure flow control for half duplex

I'm debating between that and a Netgear GS108. Are there any advantages to either? This will be for my local area network with media streaming being a concern.

Pick the cheapest, performance will be the same since both are low-end soho models.

The Netgear has a metal enclosure with decent mounting holes, while the Fry's model appears to be plastic. The performance difference is probably negligible, but the metal case would be enough to push me to the Netgear. I've got several of this line of Netgear switches and haven't had any trouble.

What would be the next worthwhile step up in performance? They're the exact same price atm lol

I'd think all decent switches managed or not would give performance +/- 10% of each other.

You can get an HP 8 port for about $100, they have an awesome warranty.

NetGear ProSafe has lifetime warranty as well, but I would expect a little more hassle than HP to get the RMA and expect Netgear to receive the defective before they ship a replacement.

Frys switch indicates 90 days warranty.

I think the answer is pretty clear.
