Following the cancellation of Luke Cage and Iron Fist, Netflix has decided to axe Daredevil. But according to Deadline, who initially broke the story, the titular character isn't necessarily out of the picture. Netflix said that "the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel," while Deadline's sources seem to think he could pop up on the Disney+ streaming platform. The same sources claim that Jessica Jones and the The Punisher "are still currently scheduled to run on Netflix as planned."

Overall, the cancellation of the series starring Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who had been tweeting about a fourth season in the past few weeks, shows just how strained relations between Netflix and the Jeph Loeb run Marvel TV have become. A far cry from when their multi-series deal was first announced back in 2013 with big smiles and almost bigger plans. The current state of affairs became painfully evident when the SVOD player abruptly pulled the plug on a third season of Luke Cage last month. One week after Iron Fist was pink slipped, that October 19 cancellation of Harlem’s Hero came after the nearly half scripts had been written for a Season 3 and a formal renewal had been considered a foregone conclusion.

meh, I really didnt like the format. characters were often inconsistent and the 13 episode rule was obnoxious. I felt like with every marvel show I was always waiting for the good parts. Ironically I think this last season had the best pacing and yet I still found myself constatntly wishing theyd move the fuck on. I also haaaaated the karen page character, such a waste of space.

I'll watch it...through...methods

Heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbors, films, football, beer, and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. To keep them in control was not difficult…. All that was required of them was a primitive patriotism which could be appealed to whenever it was necessary to make them accept longer working hours or shorter rations. And when they become discontented, as they sometimes did, their discontentment led nowhere, because being without general ideas, they could only focus it on petty specific grievances. ― George Orwell, 1984

Of course today we have Netflix, gaming, and porn.

Man that sucks! Daredevil was superb and my favorite Marvel show, movies included.

If they try to do something with this in the future they have to use Cox and D'Nofrio because they're what made it great.

One of the few marvel TV/film incarnations that did the original comic character justice... But if disney thinks im going to shell out more money for a new streaming service.. they can kiss my ass. Between Netflix, vudu and amazon... i got it covered, so i will miss out on them ruining another Marvel story, or star wars saga... thats actually a plus.

Yes, I benefit from your actions, but the tide raises all ships, Mr. Castle ! Season 2 Kingpin / Punisher Classic!!!!

Ugh... Apart from som masturbatory character development, the last season was really good set up some serious plot for the next. Boo.

they should sign Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin for the next Spider Man movie...he really nailed the part

Totally agree. I think he stole the show with his take on Fisk. I consider it to be worthy of mention with Ledger's Joker and Hopkins Lecter.

Disney was never going to let Netflix keep the Marvel shows going since they're starting up their own streaming service (Disney+) in 2019

I think it was probably the other way around - I imagine Netflix probably had the license to use for a bit longer if they wanted to, but since Disney pulled everything else from their service, Netflix didn't want to give them to money from continuing the Marvel properties. Netflix has to pay for both show development + licensing, and the licensing alone is probably enough to fund more original content. I'm expecting JJ and Puinisher announcements shortly after their final seasons arrive as well.

This has to be Disney giving them hard time. I am not sure Netflix canceled it out of the blue for no reason. Probably some shit going on with disney.

enjoyed Daredevil alot, and iron fist kinda reddemed itself in s2. damn shame they wont be continuing any of the series it was clear they were heading towards another big defenders series.

i guess disney wernt to keen on the mature side of things, just too much pointless sex at various points in the all of the series. and when disney will redo the series the violence will be dumbed down

Agreed, my take is that Netflix was forced into some less than advantageous licensing going forward. They want to own their content in perpetuity so they don't have to keep paying increasng license fees. With the new Disney streaming service, Disney probably requested rights to opt-out of the license after a certain time, or ability to host it on their service as well.

I can see Luke Cage and Iron Fist being cancelled cause they were boring.

I don't think you can blame Disney's streaming service since Disney has stated numerous times no mature content will be available on D+. Mature content, movies currently, will go to Hulu. Marvel TV doesn't fit into D+'s model.

The problem with Marvel TV and Netflix is diminished ratings after the first or second season. That is what doomed Daredevil. It was a good show but didn't make sense for Netflix to spend money making it with Marvel TV to have the ratings keep dropping. I would expect the same with Punisher and JJ. 3 seasons then done.

Marvel is super expensive for Netflix so I can see the relationship ending due to that. Especially when Netflix's best rated shows are their own.

I can totally see Marvel TV moving all new mature content to Hulu since Disney owns part of them. I would also expect 3 seasons and done model. That also follows the Disney model for cable/streaming TV shows. Disney follows a 3 season then kill model for non-network (ABC) shows no matter how popular with very few exceptions.

the new Disney streaming platform will be strictly PG so they would never be able to show any of the Netflix Marvel shows the way they are currently constructed...

Punisher is my fave, I imagine after the seasons air that the rest of the marvel shows will get canceled too. Though I'm not a big fan of Daredevel, I will say that Vincent does do an amazing job as Fisk.

DD S1 Awesome, S2 meh, S3 pretty good.
JJ S1 Awesome, S2 meh, S3?
LC S1 Awesome, S2 meh.
Punisher S1 pretty good.
IF S1 Terrible, S2 meh.
The Defenders S1 meh.

I'm not really that disappointed

Pretty much my feelings on the shows. I'm still sad to see this one get the axe. Dare Devil was easily one of the better ones.

Hi All

Well it looks as though I'll be cancelling my NetFlix account

Daredevil was fun.

This is a shame and I hope they bring it back, but I’m not paying for Disney streaming.

...or Warner Bros streaming.
...or Critereon streaming.

Stupid media companies. Everyone wants the biggest slice, and if they can't have it, then they'll happily ruin the whole pie.

I could sorta tell that they didn't have a large enough following to continue getting more seasons but I still really loved these series : (

I dunno, it is weird they abrupty cut all of them in the same swing. I would be willing to bet it is some dealing with disney over it. I too enjoyed watching them.

Netflix never has a license. The show was always owned and developed by Disney. There has apparently been some friction for years as well with Netflix wanting 10 episode seasons and Disney insisting on 13 (Netflix is probably right here as each of the series seasons had some pretty blatant filler that would of made the seasons better by being removed).

JJ/Punisher are already cancelled after the runs, just likely not publicly announced. Only reason they haven't been cancelled officially is that they are already in the can. Apparently DD season 4 was already over half way developed.

I enjoyed them. I even finished Iron Fish.

I appreciated that Netflix' Marvel offerings were adult, grim, and did away with most of the costumed glory. Netflix built seasons across five different characters and managed to keep it real. DC Universe offerings on television have been successful because they stripped out all of the grit and replaced it with inexpensive post-pubescent drama, their shows are either sugar-coated costume fluffery or teen-aged angst and I can't be bothered to find out if some super-powered poop-stain is going to save his love interest's boyfriend, especially when I know he isn't going to pound the bad guy into mud. Where does Flash keep his iPhone? He looks like he needs an iPhone, it seems like they should have an episode with Flash and his geek squad doing nothing but staring at their iPhones.
