The makers of Dragon Box have just joined the club of set top box makers that are being sued by Amazon and others for providing a means to stream unauthorized content across the internet. The Dragon Box CEO sees it differently and says his company is only providing the means to stream content from the internet and that it's not his fault if customers grab unauthorized content. I lean towards the Dragon Box side on this, but I'm going to withhold judgement until this makes it to court. Maybe all parties can reach some kind of middle ground.

“The commercial value of Defendants’ Dragon Box business depends on high-volume use of unauthorized content through the Dragon Box devices,” the suit alleges. “Defendants promise their customers reliable and convenient access to all the content they can stream and customers purchase Dragon Box devices based on Defendants’ apparent success in delivering infringing content to their customers.”

He should counter sue for libel and slander.

Unless it comes pre-installed with non-legit streaming services, what the customer does with it is none of his company's concern.

That's like going after dell for people torrenting music or downloading game of thrones.

"Defendants promise their customers reliable and convenient access to all the content they can stream"

Yeah ... riiiiiiiight .... since when does a manufacture have any input or control over pirated material. They don't.

They are just trying to beat these guys up in court and wear them down financially.

I remember when WD released their Media Streamers going back 10+ years along with a handful of other manufactures and the industry cried and made threats.

I think people should pay for their content. I do. I've spent a TON of money of Blu-ray and DVD collections. CD Collections. I very actively search all of that stuff out. It's dirt cheap.

BUT, what an abuse of the courts.

They are going to come to an eventual crossroads in the future when tech is so advance that these movie files can be stored endlessly and cheaply just like MP3's, shared, streamed with the greatest of ease that it's going to be disastrous to them 10x fold over what it is now.

Trust me, 3 or 4 years, your kids will be trading 10 - 20 - 30 movies between their phones in a few minutes to later be watched at home, in the car, between classes, whatever.

Kodi's always been a pain. Terrarium and Mobdro do the needful. No stupid Elysium not showing things. No adding on add-ons. Yeah, Amazon/Android makes things really simple. Until Amazon does a better job locking their own stuff, they have no room to talk. (Please don't lock your stuff, Amazon, as that's the only reason I have 2 Fire TVs!)

Good point, my fire tv box may or may not have streamed its fair share of unauthorised content, thanks to certain apps that are made available for download by amazon themselves.

No...just no. The only way this crap is going to stop is for frivolous lawsuits to be painful in proportion to the "plantiff's" means. Amazon loses a bullshit lawsuit? That'll be one billion, please. Donate the proceeds to Doctors without Borders or UNICEF. Done.

Shit would stop in a hurry.

Amazon should sue themselves because the Fire Box and Stick can also be used to obtain illegal content.

Amazon is doing this to stifle competition & boost their Fire Box & Firestick hardware. Shutdown the little guy hardware companies means that they will sell more Amazon hardware for illegal streaming. They have no intention of shutting down the illegal streams. They’re making money from both sides.

Part of me hope this passes. Then we can start suing gun manufacturers for mass killings with their guns! It's perfect! <-- Making a point not really wanting this.

Maybe that's the reason. Amazon would rather you buy a fire stick or fire tv that you hack than a alternative box that they don't get to take some of your money.

the only reason people buy these boxes is because they can stream premium content freely and easily
