Online video game forum NeoGAF is currently down after sexual assault allegations came forward against site owner Tyler "Evilore" Malka. Many of the site's moderation team have stepped down in protest against Malka, and the forum's future is currently unclear.

NeoGAF is reportedly preparing a statement, though the future for the website is unclear. A popular video game forum, NeoGAF counts industry figures as members and part of its community. As such, news and breaking events in the video games community often come first from the website.

Maybe gaming news can finally find a home now, where you don't have to fear being banned because some snowflake accuses you of racism or sexism.

And again the mantra holds true. The more you try to surround yourself with virtue signalling, the more dirty you are.

God forbid you wait for evidence before passing your judgement.

Been a member awhile. Sad to see it go down as there are not many other gaming forums like it. That said, it had its issues.

Also, not to victim blame but reading the tweets in questions I have to wonder if there is more to the story. They were driving across NOLA together while sharing a hotel room and were both drunk at the time of the shower incident. That does not and should not mean every and anything goes but I'm not getting why someone with a husband is doing that. That is a very intimate thing to be doing with a person not your spouse.

I don't need any further evidence to know that the site had a vile community I was there, endured it for a while.

As for the guy himself, isn't it them that always say "Listen and believe?" But I'm not them I still believe in innocent until proven guilty. But I can hope the cesspool that was neogaf goes away even if he's innocent can't I?

There were a handful of threads that I followed there daily and will miss. It was easy enough to avoid the political and social justice nonsense and just focus on certain interests. I'm not too well versed on the behind the scenes stuff, but it seemed like the moderation was a bit easier going over the past year or so. No doubt that the owner is an asshole though.

I got my lone ban there for commenting in a thread about a cop that had made a dumb Facebook post. The tone of the thread was that both the cop and his wife were both horrible racist aholes that should never be allowed to work again. The wife it seemed was guilty and had to be a racist simply because she married a guy that later made a FB post of poor taste. I commented that the cop should be reprimanded at work and that's that, people deserve a second chance. I got banned because "some things just aren't up for debate". I just never read anything other than pure game / TV / hockey threads there again.

If we take everything as fact: Her spouse obviously knew they were traveling together and stuff so likely all three of them were close enough friends for that level of trust to be there. Staying together in a hotel room isn't code for "I want you to fuck me". He might have got mixed signals from her or took something the wrong way, that can happen. His actions after he was told no speak more to the situation though. To me, that says a lot about the reasons he wanted to go on the trip and his intentions for it regardless of what he believed she was saying. Either way, it does not speak highly to him as a person, especially combed with the other allegations against him.

I think the dude is a huge asshole and narcissist, but I sort of felt the same way when I read the accusation. When you travel to NOLA with a dude that isn't your boyfriend, and you party with him in an intimate setting like a hotel room ... there's a lot of room there for intentions to get misinterpreted. But yeah sounds like he was a jerk after the fact for sure. The thing doesn't rise to "sexual assault" though in my mind. And some of the GAF-hater idiots on Twitter and other forums calling it rape can stfu.

Seems to have been a comment purge, there was more here between 12:30 and 1PM.

Nothing particularly inflammatory either.

This isn't the first accusation in the gaming (or gaming journalism - see Polygon recently) industry lately and frankly I find it ironic as feminists pushed back so hard against Gamergate when many proponents (such as myself) were truly concerned about corruption. People were taking a stance against general corruption and got backlash about misogyny and here we see that the very same corruption has led to the covering up of male sexual predators - maybe it's time some people shut their mouths and opened their eyes. (and, yes, the Weinstein fiasco is related, as the gaming industry has become a lot like Hollywood in recent years)

very sad...I am a member over there and always thought that place was a great resource as far as a gaming community with so many great posts...I remember the process to actually become a member took months as they don't just accept anyone for some crazy reason...I hope it comes back but also hope that it's run by decent people...sad to see sites like Aint It Cool News (Harry Knowles sexual harassment allegations and most of the mods/contributors resigned) and now NeoGaf go down like this...

I'm still reading about what happened but without picking sides.....

That commentary is in no way is a good article. The "article" attempts to state facts and then carefully injects "maybe." That's a stunt we like to call "Cover-your-behind".

Slander by association, proof by anecdote, unverifiable claims as facts, warranty clause following each "fact", etc... This "article" has every rhetorical stunt in the book.

TLDR: The "article" absolute shit.

I don't like this. The irony of those claiming NeoGAF is a extremist social justice warrior vigilante site are the ones themselves on twitter acting like extremist social justice warrior vigilantes. All hungry at the site's demise.

Jesus, I can't live without that Buy/Sell thread...

Don't care about the rest of NeoGAF

I'm just waiting for the [H] scandal when we find out that Kyle has been sticking stuff into multiple sockets

It's impportant to realise the site owner; Tyler Malka has done other horrible things. Back in 2012 he grabbed a woman's rear when he was in Spain of a guy he knew. He also shared nude pics of another posters ex gf. He also donated $10,000 to a poster that beat his mom and got caught with child porn who was mod there and when the story broke out claimed he didn't know his name.

Also, the mods there were just like the Stasi, where you'd get banned if you were to post anything that wasn't to the left of Stalin. Even their gaming section devolved into hyper SJW/PC. NeoGAF was the left equivalent to Stormfront.

You can't call out the site for what it is because then you become one of them? WHAT?

There is nothing extreme about calling NeoGaf a social justice haven. It's a well known fact that's what it is.

Calling the community vile (of course #notall) is just my opinion based on the few months I've tried to express my opinions there on games.

Of course I want to see it go, love thy enemy only works in the bible, but in reality not even the most devoted christians love their enemies. They did me wrong, so I'm happy to see the site suffer, it's normal human behaviour.
And if there are that many detractors of the site who absolutely hate it, doesn't it show that there was actually something wrong with it? Because every success story has a few detractors, but when the overwhelming majority is happy to see them fail it suggests an underlying problem.

Married lady sharing hotel room with man other than husband doesn't strike anyone else as a bit "off"? This guy should have known better.

I enjoyed the Gaming and FS/Trade areas, but if you went into off topic and were even remotely conservative or libertarian you'd be instantly banned for even voicing your opinion. I've seen people get perma banned while talking about College costs being linked to government backed loans. I was personally banned for commenting on my experienced in Iraq while deployed the 3 times I was over there. The discussion was on the "Refugee Crisis" and integrating or something iirc. Apparently what actually happens in Iraq in 9 of the major cities in the country is racist and not needed on neoGAF.

Off topic was fine too, just had to put the horse blinders on. The best part about them was how busy some of the threads were. Unless you leaned far left, you didn't want to bother with the various political and social threads. They were fascinating to me, in the sense that I'd never encountered something so insular. It was crazy that they could all huddle there and carry on as if their far left ideology was normal and everyone else in the world was evil. There was no self awareness that their view was just one of many.

Kotaku now has an article up...

Just don't know what to make of this...
In a phone conversation with Kotaku, Leupp said that even after the alleged shower incident, she’d continued her friendship and even had a brief physical relationship with Malka until they had a falling out at E3 2015. She said that, prior to the alleged shower incident “I had no reason not to trust him. He had been introducing me to people and helping me network for my film company,” she told me. “I feel gross from having ever been in contact with this person.

Haven't been a fan of NeoGAF with the weird way they moderate over there.

I had been lurking there for years and made threads for the Homeworld games but didn't post otherwise. Was always to afraid to speak my honest opinion because of the way their moderation was done with transparency. People would just be banned with no reason given at all and their rules were updated but never listed or at least it seemed that way. Seemed like a good place to meet fellow minded gamers and techies though minus the apparent lack of PC people :(

I was in the habit of checking it to kill time and skim their off-topic section for odd news. Guess it was the closest thing to Facebook I had as a time sink. Had finally made this account so I'll have to start joining in discussions here and hopefully get into some groups for stuff like Spintires and Destiny 2.

Just from lurking here it reminds me of the old days of forums which I miss. Rules that are posted and not updated on a whim without telling the users and then if moderation happens it is listed for everyone so we know not to do the same. Not meaning to sound like sucking up and that might just be comparison in my mind coming from GAF.

So reading the tweet, The Guy made a sexual advance (albeit a very forward one), The Woman said no I have a boyfriend/I'm just not interested and the guy backed off, after that the woman felt that the guy was "mean" to here but provides no examples of what that meanness entails (i. e. mean like he used to buy my breakfast now he doesn't or mean like her terminated my Job). The fact that people are honestly comparing this guy who as far as I can tell didn't actually do anything wrong even based on the account of his accuser to Harvey Weinstein who literally raped women is disgusting. This is the kind of false manufactured victimhood that makes it harder for real victims to be believed when they come forward, and in doing so only helps to perpetuate the culture that allows real predators to flourish. I mean Jesus her last comment in the first tweet states that she was sexually harassed Four Times on the Walk home that day! That should make any sane person question either the veracity of her claims or the reasonableness of her definition of harassment.

It is worth noting that the guy is most likely a douchebag who intended to have intercourse with a friends girlfriend but it's a really long jump/leap/walk/ transcontinental flight, From that to being a Harvey Weinstein/ Bill Cosby esque sex predator.

This must be your first brush with SJW logic.
