Hi,

I purchased a server from Dell that came with Server Essentials 2016 and need to update to the Standard version of 2016 Server because I didn't know Essentials limits concurrent logins to two people only and doesn't serve applications upon thin clients. My bad I should have done better research but I purchased two OEM global Server Standard 2016 keys and not sure how to upgrade the system. I mean I just can't enter that new serial key with in the product activation page in Windows Essentials and hope that it will auto update itself to Standard?

I have a student account with Microsoft and was able to download the whole Server 2016 iso file but not sure if that will work with an Oem key?

Thanks.

Much appreciate any help. Thank you.

This is a link for how to do it from 2012 R2 Essentials --> 2012 R2 Standard, person says it might/could/should work on 2016 versions.

Page that link above mentions going to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pr...ndows-server-essentials-sbs/dn479774(v=ws.11)

Also, this talks about conversion/upgrade paths for 2016: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/supported-upgrade-paths
