I need a cost effective printing solution. I have an old router that I am using as a print server. The only problem is that newer printers don't have the parallel interface (they are USB). I would like to get a printer that I can refill like the Canon IP3000, IP4000, etc. These seem to be my four options:

1. Get a new USB print server and printer
2. Find a printer that has a parallel jack. (Only one I have found is the IP4000 which is pretty expensive).
3. Get a network capable printer and eliminate the print server.
4. Get some kind of parallel to usb adapter that I can use on my current print server (Is there even such a device?)

Which solution costs the least (also in terms of refill ink costs)?
What equipment do you recommend I buy?

TIA

If you're on Windows, share the printer to other computers on the network. Free and simple. Only caveat is that the computer the printer is hooked up too has to be on when you want to print.

Option 3.

USB print servers are a pain, IMO. Never had much luck with them. The ease and reliabiity of having a network-connected printer is well worth it.
