Hello everyone,
My trusty Yate Loons (D12SM-12) have all started to make noise (clicking or buzzing) after 9 years in service. I've tried doing some searching and a lot of information is from 5+ years ago or contains contradictory results. I'm looking for some suggestions, and I have two products as starting points. I will need 8 fans to cover my bases - six on the main rad, one on the small rad, and one at the front of the case. I also have a Lamptron CM430 fan controller w/ 30 watts per channel I can use to manage their speed with 3/4 pin, or I could reuse my old 12/7v switch I made for molex fans which is currently being used.
1) Noctua NF-F12 iPPC-3000 fans, started because Newegg has them on sale right now and Noctua comes up a lot in my research. I can get them for $18.39 each right now. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608052 I would need some splitters to get all of them on the controller which only has 2 channels open (other two are controlling my pumps,) looks like three of these https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812423163 would cost me $11.90 including shipping, bringing my total to $159.04.
2) Gentle typhoons come up a lot, and it looks like a good option would be the darkside gentyle typhoons that there are several versions of on frozencpu (also sold through amazon.) On frozencpu the 68 cfm one is on sale for $19.95 each http://www.performance-pcs.com/dark...radiator-fan-2150rpm-68cfm-black-edition.html I could pick up an 8 way splitter http://www.performance-pcs.com/dark...x-fan-y-splitter-cable-jet-black-sleeved.html from frozencpu for $11.99, so this total with free shipping would be $171.59. Having the splitter be one piece is nice for cable management, but this would all be behind the mobo tray so not a big deal.
3) An alternate to the splitters, I could pick up a hub that would use the pwm to control the fans, which may be smarter in my case. Looks like something such as this Electop unit would be perfect - https://www.amazon.com/Electop-Chassis-Cooling-Molex-Controller/dp/B071KNT7FW/ It's also a whole dollar cheaper at $10.99, although then I have to wait for a second delivery through nice n slow prime. My only concern is my 8700k spikes up quite a lot under even a short load at full cpu speed, will drive me crazy if I'm constantly hearing whoosh, quiet, whoosh, quiet. I might be happier just running the fans constantly at a tolerable level?
So price-wise on the fans, we're only talking $12.55, so I'd much rather go with the superior fan for my situation. My radiators are a Thermochill PA120.3 and a Swiftech MCR120, but really the ability to keep them from making odd noise when horizontal with the controller is a top concern so that's why I didn't post in the watercooling sub specifically. I am open to other suggestions of course, but this is where I'm thinking right now. Not sure how long the sales will last, knowing newegg it probably expires tonight. Thank you!
