Hello All!

I need help picking out what RAM to upgrade, I'm looking to go with 16bg's. I went to the G.Skill site to try and use the RAM configuration tool ( https://www.gskill.com/en/configurator ) but I think the X58 is out dated and not an option.

Does anyone know by chance?

My set up:

· Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920 - Retail

· EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

· G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory

· AMD Radeon R9 270 Series

Thank you!!
Stuart

That's some older kit, so I'd definitely buy your RAM used, since investing in nice new RAM isn't in line with the value of the rest of the hardware.

That said, you need to add ram in 3-DIMM sets, so you've got options:

1- Add 3x 2GB DIMMs to what you've already got, for 12 GB total
2- Add 3x 4GB DIMMs to what you've already got, for 18 GB total

I'd peruse the for sale/for trade forum on H and see if anyone has some DDR3 they're willing to let go for cheap. They probably do! I'd offer some, but the smallest DIMMs I've got are 8GB and I both don't have a 3-set of them and also don't think the X58 chipset likes 8GB DIMMs.
