It has been awhile since i've been in the market for memory. I've been using 2 x 512 Buffalo CH-5 DDR when it first came out up to now. Recently I had one of the sticks die on me and well... now my system is memory starved and is really slow in games and when I want to run a database.

Right now i'm in the market for 2x 1GB memory sticks and ran into some PQI sticks. Timings and specs all look the same, only difference is that one has the brand Turbo on it and the other does not. As for overclocking, I plan to moderately overclock - 220area.
What are the differences between these two, and which should I get?

MSI K8N Neo4 SLI

Thanks

I believe those are the same sticks, just one package has two sticks and the other is a single stick. You can buy either the double pack or two single sticks, it will all work the same in dual channel mode. Have fun :D

Thanks for the quick reply. But the odd thing is that the picture and manufacturer link points to the turbo(DBL), however the model number points to a non-turbo(DB). Even with that, are the chips they use the same?

Thanks again

I am no memory expert, so I won't even try and answer that question for you. But I'm sure somebody that knows something will come along by tomorrow sometime.

Sorry I can't help you any further.

Hello hitokiri!

I've cross checked for you the 2 newegg item links you gave with the PQI Turbo product line.

Look over here: http://www.pqimemory.com/turbo_memory.asp
This is the entire line of TURBO memory brand, by PQI.

If it was me, I would do the same research like you and from what I've found - considering the fact that NewEgg lists the actual factory part numbers, or 'SKU's - there should almost no room for error.

Look here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141227 - This link that you gave shows part number PQI3200-2048DB for the 2 GB kit u asked for.

Now look here: http://www.pqimemory.com/spec.asp?link=/dc/PQI3200-2048DB.htm - this is the link to PQI exact item that you want. Now look, although it shows it in RED as a slightly different name of: PQI3200-2048DBL, this is a mistake by PQI almost for sure because:
1. The link clearly is the PQI3200-2048DB.htm
2. The memory timing & voltages are exactly the same as those described on NewEgg.
3. And the final blow - if you simply add to the PQI link I gave you above the letter "L" straight after the "DB" (......../dc/PQI3200-2048DBL.htm) you will be taken to the correct page of the 2048MB DBL kit which is actually has black colored heatspreaders and not copper/silver/platinum colors.

There you have it.

If it was me, and I was looking for that memory in a kit, I would have no problems choosing what NewEgg gave at this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141227 .

Hope that helps.

Samuel.

If you just want to purchase new memory. I would strongly suggest going to the mfg website and run thier configurater.
That will tell you exactly which memory is certified to run in your board.

Most times memory comes with a lifetime warranty. You might do well to contact the mfg and check on replacing the memory. May not cost anything either.
