aight heres the problem: whenever i log-on it just freezes when its loading my personal preferences. got any ideas whats wrong before i reformat and reinstall windows?

thanks.

Any recent changes in hardware/software/drivers? Safe-mode work? System Restore?

Try those first

What OS?

If it's NT based (2000, XP, etc.).....

What happens if you start in Safe Mode w/ Network Support?

i went into Safe Mode then did a system restore, no luck there.

as far as i know, no hardware changes whatsoever. im running XP SP2 NTFS file system,

If the power was being turned off and on, maybe a dozen times, within an hour time frame, would this cause this hang up during log on? My gf's daughter played with the power buttons.

So it wouldn't even load in Safe-Mode?

Definitly if it was being turned on and off during innapropriate times, a system file could have became corrupted and screwd you up. There's an automated repair through the XP CD, but I'm not sure how much that saves and how much it loses i.e. system settings etc.

Yeah, cycling the power like that is very hard on computers. It could have damaged something.

it loads on safe mode no problem there, but i reboot normally then logon, it just freezes. nothing happens.

let me do a repair using my XP CD.

May I suggest purchasing some chicken wire caging to put around your computer whenever your GF's daughter is nearby?

Goodluck with the repair ;)
