Dell G7 7588

  • i7-8750H 2.2Ghz base, 4.1Ghz turbo - 6 Cores, 12 Threads
  • 256GB M.2 SSD, there is an additional 2.5' bay that is still open.
  • 12GB DDR4-L Ram (x1 8GB, x1 4GB soldered to the board)
  • Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB Max-Q varient
  • 1080p
New Dell G3 15 3590

  • i5-9300H
  • GTX 1660 Ti Max Q
  • 8 GB Memory
  • 512GB NVMe SSD
The SSD is better on the G3 but the CPU apparently is quite a bit better on the G7... 6 core vs 4 core among other differences, but I am worried about cooling. It will mostly be used on a desk. It won't be my main machine, but I want to use VR with it.

Is the 1660ti really that much better? I heard from some it's better than a desktop 1060, but yet when I am comparing Firestrike scores online for these configurations the G7 is scoring almost 10,000 points higher.

I have an acer version of the G7 and it rox. That CPU is quite zippy. And I can play 1080p ultra on the 1060.
