I need like a 1TB drive for Wii U that will power down when the system is off. I'd prefer 7200 rpm if the lower latency would make games load faster. If not 5200 rpm is fine. Must have its own power supply. Thoughts?

Great library of games at this point by the way!

I would go with anything Hitachi/WD based. Seagate has been on a weird downturn and ever since the Typhoon hit Thailand their drives have just been sub par in reliability.

Also you can stick with 1-2TB's. The Wii U has pretty small install sizes (compared to Xbox One and PS4) so that will do you just fine.

Also wait for Cyber Monday (this Monday) and just sit on Amazon/Newegg and you'll get a nice portable external for an absolute STEAL I'm sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see WD portable 1TB's going for $30.

I have just a old 1TB Western Digital MyBook hooked up to mine. Powers up and down automatically with the system power. I would think this is a standard feature for a while now, to power up and down with whatever it's plugged into.
