Need expert overclockers advice

I'm just a bit confused on FSB vs memory speed and performance we get. I'm not a noob in oc but it's been a long time when I last oc and it is my setup you see below. Since then it seems there is more options to look at then before.

Let's take the E4300 for exemple since it may be what I'll get soon.

So in order to achieve a nice oc is to find the max CPU speed being carefull using lower FSB and mem timings. So let's assume you can get 3.4GHz from the 1.8GHz original speed. Take into consideration that I will then clock it at 3.2GHz and that will be plenty enough for me and very safe too because i really don't like being border line.

Next we try to find max memory speed depending on memory we get. That the part where I'm not sure. If I should go DDR2-800 or 1000 because I don't know how impact it has on performance. Also I know a 800MHz 3-3-3-8 should give better result than a 900MHz 4-4-4-12 but I may be wrong. Of course if we talk of very low speed increase (3%?) going 1000 then I would not waste 200$ for such modules. What you guys are heading to when it's time to get memory these days?

Then come the FSB and this concern the chipset too so again finding the top speed is our 1st goal. I heard that the upcoming P965, 975X revisions will handle up to 500MHz fsb. I read some stories about bootstrap(?) and also some internal timings change when you go from 420MHz to 421MHz and that 420MHz will be faster than 421MHz because of those timings change we cannot control and that you need to be able to get 450MHz to get results that look like the 420MHz speed. Well again let's presume I we hit a wall at 485MHz so again to be secure I'll go with a safe 466MHz.

Now I need to find the multiplier and 7*466MHz will give me 3.26GHz that is close enough to my safe determined value of 3.2GHz I was looking for.

Now should I look for (2*466Mhz) 932MHz memory module than will handle 4-4-4-12 or use a 1.5x and run DDR2-700MHz with better timings like 3-3-3-8?

There is so much possibilities that this is where I get lost. Maybe all this only represents a very very small performance increase that I shouyld not bother that much other than getting a decent CPU speed? You tell me...

Maybe it would be much easier, less expensive and clsoe to be par on performance going 3GHz with 9x333MHz FSB (2.5x for mem give 833MHz)?

Ok I'm ready to listen and read what you have to say.
 
im not quite sure what question you are asking? or if that whole thing is a question...
is this a hypothetical system? something you are thinking about maybe looking at buying? or do you actualy own these parts and want help sucking the last drops of performance out of it? if you give more specific hardware specs, with manufacturer and speeds, you will get a much better response. what ram are you using? value ram or is it something decent? what mobo is all this goin on?
 
I got nothing but wanted some advice if what I'm saying is valid and what numbers to expect and look for. Then I will know what memory to get (DDR2-1000 is more expensive than DDR2-800) and also if I go with E4300 or E6300.
 
You'll get a better overclock with the E6300, as far as I know.
 
Well I am going with an E4300, ABIT IB9 (not the best overclocking board but it fits my needs), and Patriot DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 memory. If you are going with the E4300 then you will only really need some DDR2 667 memory for a 333FSB and that would put the E4300 at ~3.0Ghz. I am sure that you can get the extra little bit out of the memory to get to 3.2Ghz (~355-356FSB).

You'll get a better overclock with the E6300, as far as I know.

Only if you get the motherboard and memory to support the lower CPU multi. 3.2Ghz on an E6300 would be 457-458FSB where it is much less on the E4300 with the higher multi.
 
Since the E4300 has a 9x multi DDR2 800 RAM would be more than adequate unless you plan on taking the FSB over 400Mhz (which you won't need to do due to the high multi).

I suggest you'd be better off getting some descent DDR2 800 with CL4 timings. This should give you the optimum overclock without breaking the bank. If you're dubious about breaking the boundaries of safe operation, you could easiliy run the E4300 with an 8x multi and running the RAM at its stock speed and timings, 8x400=3200Mhz

I've heard of many problems getting the FSB up on the E4300. It's the bottom of the line C2D processor, from what I can remember.

A 420MHz FSB along with DDR2-840 will perform better by how much if we keep almost the same CPU speed 7.5x gives 3.15GHz. Those numbers look like to be a potential great overclocked setup. Sure I would be very satified with such and should be affordable to.

Yep, that's look promising and plenty enough for me... comparing to me post just abov, I guess 8x400=3.2GHz with DDR2-800 would be very similar to 7.5*420=3.15GHz with DDR2-840? So similar that I won't notice it playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for exemple.
