Need advice on finding a better display for gaming

Right now I'm gaming on a HannsG HG281D 28" LCD Monitor.
It does 1920 x 1200 @ 60hz Refresh

I'm looking to improve my display for some upcoming games I plan on thoroughly enjoying.

I have a few questions though.
I'm not looking to spend more than $500 although I'd prefer if it were closer to $300

Are there any "better" displays out there?
I'm not interested in color quality really. People bash my HannsG but it is fine for me.
I'm more interested in higher resolutions, a larger viewing space, or possibly higher refresh.

So if you were me, which of these things would you look to improve on? Resoution? Refresh? Larger Display?
Do you have any displays you would recommend?
Are there any TV's that would fit the bill? Although I prefer higher resolutions than 1080p, so there would have to be a big upside.
 
I have just read up on that monitor and it seems like a good deal. Only issue i've read is that stand seems to lean to the right on some. I really wish I would have seen this earlier as I would have gotten it. But sounds like something you should look into given your requirements.
 
yeah that would probably rock

I feel your pain, I tried to go from 2x28 1920x1200 to 3x23.6 1080p and I ended up adding a hanns g 28 back as a 4th screen
