I'm thinking about this card. Does this one perform about the same as the old 6800 gts that used to be out ?

it only has 128 bit memory and 12 pipes whereas the 6800 gt had 16 pipes and 256 bit memory. Is this correct ? Would this make a big difference ?

You are correct. 7600 GT still performs better in games than the 6800 GT.

wow, impressive. so the 7600gt pulls 5500 in 3DMark05 and 4200 in 06? my card's score gets cut in half :(

I have an eVGA 7600GT KO and I will be SLI'ng it soon. It is a beast to say the least. You CANNOT beat it in price/performance ratio.

Because the requirements are harder.. Much like a videogame. Lets take Quake 3 vs Quake 4. The same system cannot run the both exactly the same.. Its tougher on the system to run Q4 vs Q3.

You really cant.. I am VERY VERY VERY impressed with how mine is performing.

a) one of those benches (the 7800) is at 1.8 instead of 2.

b) they didnt run all the tests, which would give a much clearer picture of the differences between cards.

Go browse the scores yourself.. you will see quickly that the 7600gt isn't very far behind a 7800gt.

i dont doubt it as i ordered one yesterday, i'm just saying people need to run more comprehensive tests to prove it :)

Yea.. I know what you mean. I had run through test after test page of 7600gt's before I decided to get one. What really put me over was my wife and her tight grip on my wallet.. but all in all, I am VERY satisfied.. especially for something that is considered by most people a "budget" or "midrange" videocard. The fact alone that my 7600gt's are beating out a 7900gt that my buddy has makes me happy.

Stock 6800GT Yes, OC'd 6800GT 400/11000 (6800ULtra) no. But it still is a very good card, and since demand for that card is pretty high, you can get it for a cheap price.

I say you go for it, the 68U may have better performance but 7600GT has better shader support. Go for it. Make sure to get the KO edition from eVGA, better stock heatsink, or you should get the Zalman VF900.

does the card come with a dvi to vga adapter ? i noticed just about all the cards are dvi

sweet, order placed.
Here is my new rig, its all on its way:

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
E6300
XFX PV-T73G-UDE3 Geforce 7600GT 256MB
CORSAIR XMS2 1GB PC6400

should be a good overclocker/budget combo to tide me over for awhile.

Im sorry but the 7600gt owns the 6800 ultra in probabaly all test and the 7600 is the best card out right now for the price

Well I wouldn't know first hand, but just from what I've heard the 6800U does better in some tests, but I'm not saying that it's a definate thing. :)
