I'm trying to help someone with their computer. It takes about 4 minutes to boot to the desktop. I'd like a program that will run in the background and tell me what is taking so long.

Any ideas?

quick boot enabled in the bios?

is it that actual windows load-up that's taking forever?

start>run>msconfig, then startup tab.. that shows most, if not all the programs that load when windows is started. I've found that disabling as many as possible can speed up the process immensely.

old hardware?

^ man this windows is really messed up. but a re-install is out of the question.

nothing jumps out at me looking in msconfig. i do need to google everything in there to make sure tho.

i've tried bootvis with no success in the past. there has to be a program out there that wil do what i want it to. im looking at autoruns right now, but it does not seem to tell me how long each pogram/service is taking.

why is a reformat not an option? file and settings transfer wizard works well for most things..
