Hello,

I am at the point of buying a new monitor for my new rig I am building.

The use is mainly graphic design/web design, coding, e-mail, browsing, movies and some light gaming (like world of warcraft and league).

I think I decided I am not going for an ultrawide because and especially not a curved one because it would mess lines in photoshop I think and a normal one I think it would be weird to view some of the webs made. Thats what my thinking is on ultrawide .. maybi I am wrong though.

So I am left with 27" and higher, the question is if I should go 4K or not?

I do like higher refresh rate and gsync and all that, but most of the monitors out for that seem to have really bad uniformity and build quality over all...

Budget : MAX 1500€.

I hope anyone can help me go in right direction, also need a slick looking monitor arm for on my desk.

I'm a big fan of the Philips BDM4065UC which is a 40" 4K that is surprisingly affordable. It is not perfect, but I think it really the best that can be found for less than super expensive.

The 40" (or actually 39.5" is to me the perfect size for a 4K in that what you get is the pixel size you also see with a 27" 1440p monitor, so no need for scaling in the programs you use. And with such a big screen there is plenty of room to hold 2-3 web pages next to each other with room to spare and when gaming :D

There is a very long thread about the monitor in this forum and also loads of on-line reviews to be found including a bunch on youtube to just get a quick impression. I have had mine since April and have had no real life issues.

hey man, thanks for the input but I really think 40" is going to be to much for me even it looks really nice for the price.

I am really thinking if I should get 1440P or 4K, ultrawide is out of the picture especially curved. I think photoshop and indesign drawing lines it is going to look very weird.

For the 4K part, I know I will get a pascal card when it comes out. At the moment I have a GTX970 and I know its not enough for a 4K (well for what I do wow and league of legends it probably would). Than there is the scaling in windows, I don't know if 4K still gives alot of problems with that...

But if I wanna future proof I mean I probably should look at 4K?

It is more of a workstation / gaming maybi 10hours at MAX in a week. I do like to have good looking monitor to though on my desk :) makes it even harder I guess

Budget is quite decent, 1500€ so... any more suggestions and help are welcome!!

At ~43.5" 4k is the same DPI as 24" 1920x monitors... so if you ever thought of a 2x2 set of 24" monitors 4k is that without bezels, without multimonitor hassles, but with window management hassles. Drop the scaling in your desktop if you can deal with that big a display 20"-28" from your face :)

Well for sure not going 40". It is TO big.

I just can not decide for my work what I wanna go for.

Ultrawide : I would pick one of the LG's or Dell ( don't know what will be best ). Going to check in a Retail store tomorrow how it looks.

4K : 27" to max 34" range I guess, though everyone is saying windows is still having scaling issues? And the GPU power requires alot... though I don't game much like I said some WoW and league of legends and thats it, and I guess one single pascal GPU will be able to run 4K well.

1440p : Dell U2715H ? I thought about getting the acer XB271HU even though I am not much of a gamer but I Always had a Qnix2710 and yes the 94hz I ran was fun but I rather have good colors/uniformity and seems the acer is still plagued with problems wich I rather avoid getting into a return battle ...
