Don't worry. You'll see more products being released in Europe first; since the Euro is trouncing the Dollar.

Which will make me sad.

You're right. The markets have been fluctuating.

There have been cases recently where products that were supposed to be released in the States are no longer.

Whether they're being released in the Asian or European markets.

That was point I was trying to make.

Anyone know if they will be 100 % identical? I mean the US and EU model?

The differences are: the 2690 is wide gamut and the 2490 has a standard sRGB gamut. Apart from that and the difference in size they are pretty much identical.

Seem to be identical. A guy at Prad just calibrated his one with SpectraviewII. That's what you wanted to know, right?

I also got my new 2490WUXi last monday (from tftshop.net). And of course it has this horrible noise problem. I can slightly hear it at 1m distance in front of the display. So that's not cool.

Build date: 2008.12
Revision: 2EF

Called NEC at thursday to get a replacement. They said I'll get a new one (because of DOA).

I also asked them why this is still a problem as many 2690WUXi users already had this problem. The guy said he doesn't know of such problems and he would know if there were bla bla ...

Crossed fingers that I can get at least one with less noise emission. For >800€ this is really a shame.

Just got a call from NEC. Will get a new 2490WUXi in about 2 weeks. Nothing available at the moment. They also offered me a 2690 in silver but I don't want a wide gamut display nor silver as color :D

I also asked the woman again about the known noise problems on the 2690WUXi -> She also didn't know or heard anything about this

Well, maybe the woman actually knows nothing about the noise, because she uses her old TN crap and has never actually saw 2690 nor 2490. But I know even NEC technicians lie and I'm amazed about that. One think is what does my superiors tell me to do and another is a personal dignity. I mean haven't our mothers told us not to lie? :)
Anyway, I have 2690 with the nosise and I got used to it a long time ago...

For the german readers:

Today I've just sent a mail to NEC about the noise issues:

Soweit so gut, kein Problem.

Vielen Dank!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Also got a response some minutes later saying

Sehr geehrter Herr ...,

So let's hope someone really cares and does something about it ...

It is fascinating, that they managed to make something as comlicated as H-IPS LCD panel with a polarizer, but they are unable to create a silent power source :)) Crazy Japanese :)

I know, that in case of 2690 best screens go tpo the SpectraView line. It means screens with best uniformity and without dead pixels. (But still can contain dead sub-pixels!) So maybe the same is with 2490, alhough it is well known, that the screens in 2490 are generally less prone to defects.
If you have the possibility, test Multisync 2490 before buying and save money. You can get a calibrator rather cheap, for 2490 you can go even with Spyder 2 (which is not usable for wide gamut monitors, but OK for sRGB 2490) and you can make a cheap cardboard hood :)

Personally I wouldn't use the Spyder 2 calibrator for a professional graphic monitor- just my experience. It's okay for non-critic colour work but not for pro graphic designers.
