NEC 2490 Calibration

I am very close to buying the 2490 and have 2 questions about the calibration.

1. is the SpectraView II that comes with the monitor actually IN the monitor or is it separate software that just gets sent along with the monitor?

2. if it is actually part of the hardware, is there an advantage there, or will buying the software separately be just as effective when calibrating?

the software comes on a seperate disc but it actually allows the 12 Bit LUT of the display to be hardware calibrated through the ddc/ci.
