NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Guys i can't decide, H60 or cryorig c1? i'll buy a noctua industrial fan, the NF-F12 2000rpm if i buy the H60 or NF-A14 2000 IP67 PWM if i buy the cryorig. Which do you recommend?

My V3 finally arrived. Packaged in black paper box similar to an Apple product :)
The edges around the corners could be smoother. Very fine case and worth the money.
Here is the V3 next to my Cooler Master Elite 130.

Q: Stripped threads?

Must've been feeling a tad OCD tonight, and decided to re-insert my GPU card. Was trying to see if I could figure out why it was sagging (had a rattle occur last week that went away after pushing upward on the card). Not 100% sure, but it appears that either the bend in the PCI mount on the case wasn't bent completely true, or perhaps the case itself is still slightly warped (have zero wobble atm), as inserting the card fully into the socket leaves the PCI bracket at an angle to the PCI mount (upper slot is much closer than middle slot, and bringing them flush tilts the front of the card downward). Anyway..

While loosening the bottom blank PCI cover to readjust it's position (just being OCD again), when I went to re-tighten the screw, it just kept spinning. Torqued it down the same amount that I've always used for the others, and 100% certain it was the correct screw. Used the 1 spare that was included with the M1, and it did the same (grabbed into the threads, but wouldn't tighten).

Is it possible to re-tap this particular hole.. and if so, what size tap and replacement screw should I use?

Also, as a suggestion for a v4 revision.. figure a way to have Lian-Li weld in steel inserts for everything requiring a damn screw ;)

Anyone received their V3 PSU bracket yet? Ordered 13th, supposed to ship 18th via USPS. Have not got any tracking information via email or in Paypal.
I received a mail 5 hours ago:
We are preparing to ship your M1 Accessories on Jan 5, 2014 (Version 3 SFX Power Supply Bracket and Version 3 Panel Kits have already shipped, we will send the tracking numbers when we get them).

I also ordered a power cable which explains the extra week I guess. It doesn't matter, the SX500-LG isn't available yet anyway.

I asked this already. The side bracket mounting points got inserts but not the expansion brackets. Guess it's impossible for LL to do them and fold the metal lip.

Instead of retapping, I recommend you use a bolt and nut with plastic washers to get it really tight.

Yeah, got the same email presumably 5 sec after I posted. :) So it's on its way.

Is that necessary for using the SFX-L? Because I plan to get one as soon as I can find it.

It's depends on what side you want to place the fan: facing inward or facing the right side panel. If you have a V1 case, it has a right-angle cable. V2 and V3 have a left-angle cable.
But I've also shortened my cable, I don't know if it's long enough for both install orientations since the connector has changed orientation and position.

I got a gigabyte 970 itx. Just fyi for anyone considering this card - it is super loud at idle even after setting the fan to a minimum speed of 33%. It is not a good option if you are looking for a quiet system. I wish they made it possible to shut the fan off at idle.

If you don't mind voiding the warranty you could BIOS mod it and override the minimum fan speed.

I tested it on my reference 980 and it worked like a charm.

When you say "super loud", I think of a jet plane flying over my house or the vacuum cleaner within 10 meters. Don't you mean "noticeable" or "not whisper-quiet" ?

Hey for anyone waiting for their v3 mine came yesterday, but no one was home to give a signature. The card they left also was checked with, I or my agent need to come sign in person or recieve in person. So heads up. I think I might go with a black ice nemesis gts 240, but they are completely out of stock in United states retailers. I also thought of doing a 120mm rad for cpu, and gpu air reference cooler more room to put stuff just not as quiet. I keep thinking about the magicool g2 slim 25mm thick that few extra mm might be enough to fill with some clever low profile ducting. I heard magicool was more budget fit and finish not as good. Have anyone of you use either of these rads in this case?

I find mine to be very quiet at idle.. it's just barely noticeable and really pleasant sounding, especially compared to my SFX fan chatter.

Your best bet is probably 6/32. It's just a bit bigger than M3.

Thanks!

Good idea, thanks! I'll have to try that first.

So, the v2 and v3 have threaded inserts on the side bracket, but the v1 does not? And are they in the spots where you attach fan/rad to the bracket, or where the bracket actually attaches to the side of the frame?

I've had to remove the side bracket from the frame several times already, and the chance of buggering up those threads has crossed my mind a few times.

Yes, my USPS agent said the signature was required, due to international insurance on shipment.
My NCase took a nice ride Sunday on a United Airlines morning flight from LAX (as shown on paperwork manifest),
arriving at ORD Sunday afternoon
I hope the M1 enjoyed the in-flight movie, maybe they were showing, The Interview. :)

Unless Silverstone makes a turn around with their 600w SFX unit in the next few months I'll probably be grabbing the 500w SFX-L.

Have a V3 on order and wondering if a pci-e riser such as this one would be able to drop the card one slot without any physical interference issues. Card would be a water cooled GTX 980.

Edit: One more question, is there a NCASE 3D model available to public for part fitment testing? If not, how much space is there between bottom of rear 92mm vent and power port?

Someone earlier in this thread was trying to do the same, lower the card to bottom 2 slots. With water cooling it might be easier as long as you have no separate pump to contend with. The space from the bottom of 92/80 rear vent the the bottom of the power port I measured 106mm what are you planning?

Want to mount a pump/res combo to back of the 92/80mm vent then run hardline tubing to the ports. Replacing rubber grommets with nickel plated brass fill ports and fittings.

Looking at the bitspower mini top which stands at 100mm with pump included or bitspower ddc w/ 40mm Z-Top. The later would stand at 101mm and would benefit from being able to equip it with an anti vortex fitting. If there was enough space I'd also toss in the ddc metal casing and EK ant-vibration stands but that adds another 12 or so mm.

Also going the z-top option have to make sure the fitting mounted to the top fill port of the reservoir is offset enough to clear the power cable. Fitting would add another 27mm (18mm if I can get a non-rotary to work).

Been playing with the idea of using this as well. Which would give me tons of clearance but apparently can not feed a ddc pump running above 3800 rpm very well.

Open to other pump/res combos besides koolance. Be awesome if a EK DDC XRES 60 could be made.

If you are going to run a DDC above 3800 rpm, it will surely drown out the fan of the SX600-G.

Now that the M1 case is here, I am starting to collect parts.
For motherboard, I may wait for Skylake.
We'll see if the 2015 International CES, next week, brings any updates on product releases.

For my Optical Drive selection, I would prefer Blue-Ray capability.

The Panasonic UJ-265 or UJ-265A seem highly regarded for Slot Based Optical Drive (OD).
The Teac Blu-Ray offering, that I saw, was quite expensive (double).

Any issues with the 12.5 mm width models, versus the 9.5 mm models??

How long would it be possible to order the V3?
While supplies last, which will probably be through February.

can this be modified for AIO coolers to be used?
The case supports slim 120 or 240mm AIOs out of the box - no modification necessary.

It was designed for 12.7mm optical drives, so there's no issue.

Congratulations! It was only a question of time because the case is so well designed.

Congratulations! Seriously, you did something that big companies with money have failed to provide for the most part. They get close, but always seem to miss the mark.
