NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

When using a 3.5HDD and a 92mm fan on the case floor are their positions switchable? Looking at the pictures I'm thinking probably not.

Yay! Over a year after I bought my M1, and I finally got a GPU!

Gigabyte GTX 970 ITX (GV-N970IXOC-4GD) installed..

Also yanked out $60 worth of shitty Silverstone CP11 SATA cables (50% ended up being faulty) and replaced with the stock ASUS cables. Tidied up my cable management a little better, and finally installed the IreK alternate DEMCiflex filters (side and top only; bottom and PSU are still Necere's original version, and dirty but working very well!). Chopped up the top stick-on magnet into four pieces, so that none of the adhesive was showing through the vents in the top panel. Also, replaced the stock rubber grommets with rubber blanking plugs from the guy in Ireland that Hanakuso recommended, and replaced a broken M1 plastic clip (thanks W360!).

Switched out my old v1 internal power cable with the new shorter v2 (left-angle) version and swapped the serial/name badge for a central outlet..

The 970 ITX seems to work very well in this case. GPU & CPU temps are 40C or below at idle, and the GPU never gets above 75C during benchmarks (Heaven, Firestrike). The CPU stays in the 50's during the same tests (and under 75C during the physics portions). The card is actually pretty quiet and near silent at idle.. definitely audible under load, but with a mostly pleasant sound (could still hear the ST600-G fan chattering, though it never got louder).

Just need another 3.5" and 2.5" drive, a new monitor (and 10 more fans, and maybe a 3rd PSU), and then my build will be complete! :p

Looks good besides the sagging on the GPU. Maybe get a bracket or something so it doesn't warp the PCB over time.

Do you recommend staying with an SFX psu even if you have an ITX length gpu? I have neither a GPU or PSU yet, really unsure of how I want to build this thing. SFX psu and full length 970, or ATX psu and mini 970... Or SFX psu and ITX gpu... OR the new SFX-L psu and full length card if anyone can confirm that's even possible.

He needed to go with an SFX PSU because he also wanted a 3,5" HDD while having fans at the bottom of the case. If he didn't need any of those two, he could have installed most ATX PSU models.

Hope to see a cheaper shipping option soon. I'm tempted to upgrade to v3 and give my v2 to a friend, but I am not in a hurry to do so, and thus I don't mind waiting longer for the case to come.

I was wondering if it is possible to have neodymium magnets to secure the panels. Since they are more durable then the (Tooless Plastic Clips)
Also thanks for the accessories, finally I can stuff 6 Hard drives inside the NCASE!

I love the M1, but the cost and other things made me decide against it...

I travel a lot for work and the SG05 was the best case for me.

If I had the money and such, the M1 would be a hands down mITX case to have. This case is just awesome. I tip my hat to necere and wahaha360.

Is the shipping calculator only limited to cases? I tried adding the power cable alone, and the shipping cost was blank.

I'm thinking of ordering the power cable and adjusted SFX-L bracket when it becomes available.

Trying to purchase some accessories (top panels, clips) from the site, but the shipping options drop-down menu in the checkout is empty and won't let me proceed.

Yeah, some things aren't working correctly it seems. I've disabled the accessories order page for now.

Nice rig, but I'm curious of the load temp of W8100 in that crammed setup.

While I can guess you have a valid reason for stuffing so much HDD's in there, I can't come up with a valid reason why you would place dust filters on the side panel without there being any intake fans on that side. If anything, it will only make it harder for cool air from outside the case to enter. How are your HDD temps ?

This is looking good. Thanks for the temps. I am seriously considering a short itx 970 myself. It has to help with airflow and your temps look really good. Have you tried it without the fans to see how much impact they have on your temps?

The SFX PSUs are amazing products for what power they can deliver in the confined size but they are not better PSUs than the full ATX ones in any sense if you have enough room. Phuncz already covered the 3,5" hdd cage. There is also the matter of future-proofing for 240 rad for watercooling if you want.
If you don't need the space for anything else, you can get a much quieter and cheaper PSU with going full ATX, so I absolutely think it is an attractive option. I think this is a decision that could be based on budget, noise requirements and any considerations you might have regarding future upgrades.

Thanks! And no, I haven't tried it without the bottom fans. I can try disabling them in BIOS, if you'd like (temps will probably increase just from blocking the GPU intake).. but there's no way I'm easily taking them out and putting them back in again. Trying to get the rubber screws in the rear fan with the mobo still in place was a nightmare.

Oh the dust filters are for the incoming vents, just in case dust find its way through the side panel's vent holes.

The Firepro 8100 is at 93c (core) @ 97% load
HDD had to be reseated to mitigate heat, the Western Digital RE4 4TB reached 60C (55C max operating temp) while at max GPU load, it got kicked out of the Raid 5 array "might be overheated"

Now with repositioned HDDs and added a rear exhaust fan the the HDDs are at 47C (78F room temp)

No need. I found that the fans are very restrictive to airflow when they are off, so it won't really give a good idea of what it's like without it there. But thanks anyway:)

I know:) I started off with bottom mounted fans with those rubber screws. I had to pull out the MB to get it off, which kind of permanently messed up my cable management du to lack of patience.

Jesus im so jelous of those in USA buying the reference one from Best buy. Can someone go in store and ask when it will be posted to buy on there website? lol Ive tryed emailing and i realllly want one haha

According to OCUK (who sell a comparable card online in the UK), Best Buy are only allowed to sell the card in store.

Gibbo's "custom designed" OCUK worldwide exclusive (Nvidia/Manli reference 970) is now available at both Best Buy brick & mortar and Best Buy online..

;)

best buy's are nvidia cards with nvidia warranty

ocuk is different... just ssame physical appearance

even the boxes are different

Nvidia branded cards sold at Best Buy aren't manufactured by Nvidia, but in the past have been made by Foxconn and Flextronics..

Hard to say for certain, but right now Manli is the only OEM building a reference 970, and both cards appeared on the market at the same time. And yes, the boxes are definitely different.. but there's just no way in hell that Nvidia would let Best Buy sell a Manli branded card with Chinese instructions (which would defeat the purpose of their Nvidia branding deal). And then why would Gibbo be complaining to Nvidia that Best Buy is selling the card below his cost? Dunno.

Trying to figure out if should go with a reference 980 or the OCUK/BestBuy 970.

I would like to have a pretty quiet system and im worried the extra load of a 980 could make PSU (ST-SF45G) noisy?

On the other hand I might upgrade my monitor and go from 1920x1200 -> 2560x1440,
would that justify the extra cost for the 980 or will the 970 still do fine?

Perk of getting the 970 is that the money saved could be put into a SFX-L that hopefully runs a silent fan.

a gtx 970 won't be enough for 2560x1440 imho

it does an ok job but I would say 1 x gtx 970 is perfect for 1080p

if your going 1440p I would suggest atleast a gtx 980 even though its not much better than a 970 but for the price of £100 it might be worth it for every extra fps you'll need @ 1440p.. or you could just turn down a few settings.

The problem with going to a 980 is you're paying 40% or more for a bit over 10% more performance. That would be perfect for 1440p if it was an equivalent amount more expensive - but it's not.

970 does fine at 1440p. A 280x for that matter also does fine (without turning down settings). I have not played on intensive multi games (bf4 largest map) but in mordor, tomb raider and similar, the 280x was smooth. If I turned down to high then it would easily go to 60fps or close.

The 970 will not need to turn down settings in most games. When games push you down to medium settings, that's when a second 970 will take you back up.

that is the reason why I wanted to go titan z :p

I'd say go with the 980 for the extra oomph. If you could go SLI ( larger case ) you might go with 970 but IMHO not for mITX. I got the 450W SFX with 4770k/980 ( both OC'd ALOT ) and the PSU is quite noisy. I am waiting for the 120mm SFX-(L)

lol thats what you get with 450w .. id defo get 600w with your your setup

or go e3 1230 v2 or v3 with a 970 itx and 300w psu :D (this is what I wanted to do with my lian li tu100)

Exactly, 450w is enough to OC/Bench/Game, but not when it comes to the acoustics! Had it for quite some time, bought it before the 600w was released. Come on Silverstone, release the SFX-L already! :)
