NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

If you want (to show) computer parts for their aesthetic reasons, the Ncase M1 is indeed the wrong case for you. The volumetric efficiency of this case just doesn't allow much "displaying".

The case itself: YES !
The parts that are inside: no one will ever know...

I see now I wrote something different than intended :)

So if there would be a version 3, would it be possible to allow the mounting of server style slim PSUs like in the EVGA Hadron Hydro?

http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=110-MW-1002-K1

I just feel that it is more space efficient, and would free up more space for HDD mounting or water cooling. OR, it may even allow the Ncase to be a bit SMALLER

Hadron's PSU is not smaller. It's the same depth as SFX, less height, but much longer. Volume is 0.95 litres compared to SFX 0.79 litres.

Also, cabling is non-modular. SFX with the PP05-E cable set is much less messy than the Hadron's cable sprawl.

@ WiSK

I realize that the Hadron's PSU is not actually smaller (i'm sorry that my comment is poorly worded), I guess what I'm thinking is that something long but flat can be tucked away at the bottom or on the side of the case, creating more room for other components. I didn't think about modularity however, so taking that into consideration, you're right, the PP05-E is still better

@aceman what are the temps like on your system? specifically the GPU (I noticed you added a component for cooling the back of the GPU as well), and the HDD on the bottom below the GPU. Thanks

The problem is that server PSU's don't care about noise, so they have VERY noisy 40mm fans. This model probably has a quieter one but I'm having difficulty in believing they could manufacture a 500W PSU with a few 40mm fans that is not insanely loud, even beyond frustratingly loud and annoyingly loud.

Also, those 1U PSU's aren't anywhere near mainstream or even enthusiast: it's mainly for industrial and OEM applications. These were mainly developed for the 1U server applications, hence the "name". In my opinion, we should be hoping for more "SFX-L" PSU's that will allow a 120mm fan but still maintain a minimal volume.

Slight problem, dumb question..

Are the NCASE M1 front audio jacks wired for "HD audio" or "legacy AC97" compliance??

I'm not getting correct stereo sound from the front headphone jack.. both ears are playing a mono mix (a left-channel only sound test plays centered in both ears, and same with a right-channel test).

Tried switching from HD to AC97 in the BIOS, and every possible setting under the Realtek audio manager and Windows sound settings, and still the same. If I plug my headphones into the front mic-in and remap it, I get both left & right sound tests playing in the left ear only. The rear I/O works correctly, no headphone issues.

*I think* when I did the build, I wired it up as HD (as was shown in the mobo manual), but apparently something's not correct. Not looking forward to fishing those wires out of my cable management, but don't understand how I'm getting mixed channels.

The front ports are HD Audio. Not too sure what the problem might be - I just tested them and they worked fine. The header is keyed, so I doubt you could plug them in wrong. But I guess if it's not a software setting, the physical connection would be the thing to check. What motherboard are you using?

Could it be the wires that are making a short ? the L-wire and the R-wire shorting for instance ? Or maybe their ground signals crossed, if that is at all relevant. (I don't know enough about electronics obviously)

Thanks! I was thinking the front audio was hooked to the goofy ASUS Q-connect cable, but that was just for power and LED. Yeah, so there's no way I could have plugged anything in the wrong way, since it's a solid plug and not individual ones for each wire.

Board is the ASUS Z87i-Deluxe. If I recall correctly, I had to "tame" the front I/O cables to bend fairly sharply off to the side, to get them routed around my bottom-front fan. I can maybe see that breaking one of the wires, but nothing that would possibly cause both left & right channels to be mixed together and still retain output to both ears. Electrically, something like that would probably require both channel's jacketing to tear apart so the wires touched inside the cable itself.

Guess I'm gonna have to get back inside and jiggle some things around. Wouldn't be an issue with the "no click into place" front jacks, could it?

Anyway, thanks for the help Necere and Phuncz.. appreciate it!

Hey, I know a friend who may want to sell me his Ncase M1 rig (entire computer) but I will definitely know by June 28/Saturday. I read the FAQ and learned that we could cancel our order before the production order is placed with Lian-Li. Can I ask which date/day you guys will place the order with Lian-Li? It's one or the other for me..thanks.

What kind of temperatures are you getting with both parts being cooled by a single 240mm rad? I've seen some numbers around here using an H220, so I am curious if the more expensive custom loop gets better results.

Either way, beautiful rig. Awesome!

Bit the bullet and ordered one. Now I need to come up with what I want to do with it. I replaced my primary rig recently...

Hmmm... Order now or wait for a v3... :p
At this point I don't think it's likely there will be a v3, per se... the changes incorporated in v2 are mostly minor improvements based on feedback from users who bought the first edition cases. It's unlikely there will be any significant improvements at this point to warrant a v3.

That's not to say there won't be future production of the v2, however. As I've said, it will largely depend on demand.

Ok, so I bit and ordered a silver one w/o optical drive slot. Chose US economy shipping. I figure by the time my NCase gets here, the SilverStone SX500-LG PSU will be available and so will the Z97 Impact.

... BUT, I just now submitted my order; 19 minutes after the order link was taken down. I began the checkout process 30 minutes ago and left the final page (with the submit button) open. I thought it would time out after a few minutes, but it didn't.

So is my order going to go through?

Sure it will, if you've paid and they said they are going to order some extra anyway.

If you got a confirmation from Paypal then it went through. Don't worry about the late submission - it'll be honored.

Now, is there any way I can get silver feet with mine instead of black feet?
We're doing all black feet this time, so if you want silver you'll have to get them separately. IMO black feet look better with silver panels though - it gives it kind of a floating effect, whereas the silver feet don't really match the brushed aluminum very closely.

Hi!
I ordered a silver Ncase M1 saturday and i am super excited. However i was wondering if there will be a problem with shipping because my PayPal address is in Swedish, so instead of Sweden it says Sverige. Will this work?

I've already got a M1 V2 ordered but just have a Quick Question , if using a slim slot loading Optical Drive, SFX PSU, 240m Rad , and Ref 780ti , what options do I have for 2x 2.5" SSD placement ? Like I place both of them staked beside the PSU and still have clearance for the 240rad ?

If the GPU has a blower cooler, then you could use one of the bottom case mounts (probably the rear one to avoid obstructing the GPU intake) and stack the SSDs.

recommend use M.2 type SSD (Maximus VII impact!!!)

it will save you one sata/power cable and one space

than you can put 2*2.5 HDD on the botton

Hmm, I thought the ordering would be open until the 23rd? Already have a M1 from the first batch but was going to order some more when I got home from work.

Will the extra side panels ordering page be up longer?
