I've had DSL for quite a few years - Verizon (It's pretty much the only service I can get on the border of Chester and Lancaster counties here in PA). I lucked out with switching to all cell phones w/o telephony on the DSL line. Now, if there's no phone service, is it in good bounds to just run the incoming DSL over POTS line to my gateway instead of the splitter from my DSLAM? I'm not sure if it'll make any difference.

Pots lines are pots line. With dsl you need to run filters on all phones if your had a dsl signal coming in. If you don't have any phones then you can go from phone jack straight into dsl modem without a need for a filter or spilter

The only active part of the splitter is goign to your telephones. Essentially the "DSL" side of your splitter is just passing the line straight through. The filtering is only needed when you add non-DSL items to the same loop.
The service you are looking for may also be known as "dry loop" DSL to your provider.
