I can't see any of the other computer on my lan but they can see me, I can't see lan games that are made but i can connect to them through other ways : aka Steam friend network.
IS there a way to fix this
Im very new to networking
please help
thanks

We'll need some more details here...

What's your network setup? OS? Can you work with IPs?

First thing that comes to mind is a firewall. Are you using zonealarm, or is maybe the firewall in windows XP turned on?

OS is Winxp pro - and i think the firewall for xp might be on
Network setup is through a router (small office/ home setup)
And yes i can connect to there computers using ips

Turn off the firewall in windows XP (on the computer you want to see, not on your computer) and see if that fixes it. If a computer has a firewall on it, chances are other computers on the network won't be able to see it.

To do this if you don't know is

Start -> Settings -> Network Settings
Right click on yor Ethernet connection and select Properties
Click on the Advanced tab and uncheck the checkbox there

If your browing workstations through network neighbourhood you'll have to make sure your apart of the same workgroup as well.

dns wont affect his browsing locally unless his lan is on a domain or hes trying to access machines from a hostname. Which by the sounds of his knowledge it definately isnt.
