Despite the fact that almost 8000 band profiles have been hacked (all in the same day) and most are still linked to the malware sites, MySPace is still denying it has security holes. The social networking site blames the bands themselves claiming that all 8,000 must have fallen victim to phishing attacks….on the same day.

MySpace has denied that there is a security problem with the social-networking site, saying that the bands that were hacked fell victim to phishing attacks, which compromised their profile passwords.

I'm not emo.

I have found Facebook extremely useful in getting in touch with people that I used to go to school with or used to leave near before I moved to Canada.

1st rule of emo, Deny that your emo LOL :D

I can understand that it's a good contact for peeps, and i agree its a great communications tool. But unfourtanly it's used by todays wannbies who crave that sucide attention. imo thats sad..

+1. MySpace is the breeding ground for emos and viruses. My sis in law can log onto her MySpace after a fresh XP install and still get viruses. Die Tom! :D

Myspace is the bottom of the internet.

Pretty much, I finally deleted mine last week. Just this morning two female coworkers were talking about myspace. One had someone posting blogs linking to porn sites on her account, another had a "friend" post some porn on her page.

I still use Myspace to keep in touch with acquaintances from high school. Myspace was the big thing towards the end of my HS years, so it was very commonplace among the people my age. Nowadays I just log on to "report spam" random invites and messages leading to crap. I'm still shocked to see that Tom (and anyone else who's involved) haven't done a damn thing about security measures against spammers. Protecting underage kids from sexual predators is the step in the right direction, but theres just so much more to be done O_O.

And yes, emos need to try something more effective than /wrists :D.

Myspace has had holes in it for a very long time, but it's been so low profile nobody has picked it up.

During a cartoonist vs cartoonist ripoff scandal (that ended out with an out of court settlement) earlier this year handfuls of myspace accounts on the side of the accuser had their passwords changed and many were defaced or simply changed, and a few accounts that had a lot of interaction with those were changed in a similar fashion as well.

Myspace back then used the "you clicked a malicious link or gave your password away" defense as well.

If someone's serious about slitting their wrists, they should slice from wrist to elbow. Almost guaranteed they won't be able to sew that shut and stop the bleeding.

And yes, Myspace is the bottomless pit that defines all that is bad about the internet. A classmate of mine wanted to know what her son was doing all day online. Me and a friend tracked him down on Myspace and found out her son was running a racist hate group which if the private school he attended had found out would've cost him his education.

agreed. Cutting across the wrist will typically clot before you bleed to death. Cutting down along the blood vessel will make it much harder for it to clot and you will bleed to death. In my opinion if a person is found after a failed sucide attempt they should be aided in doing it the correct way. Only a complete failure at life would fail at sucide and such a person doesn't deserve to live.

I agree. I see a lot of people use it for good reasons like getting in touch with old friends then I see fags use it to stalk people and they make an account and post one picture just so they can say they have facebook or something because it's the "cool" thing to do.

I think people use it as a way to convince themselves that they're liked. I see TONS of people just randomly go around and add people that they've hardly had a conversation with. I guess they're like "Zomg i have 100 friends! I'm important!".

Not to mention it's a child molesters dream...

i woke up one morning in the summer to find out that my band page had been deleted. no explanation was given. over 10000 plays... :(

not that it really matters, i'm not great anyways... but still, i was really pissed off. so much in fact that i created a new page.

wankers.

i don't know of another site for musicians which works as well for getting your music heard.

lol, I love people who have never even used something whining about the whiners that use it :D

I recommend cheese with that whine :D

Seriously they need to clean up their act with the spammers, thats out of control. Otherwise its a great place for me to keep in touch with people.
Ran into some old friends that I would never have been able to get in contact with when all other avenues I tried had failed.

OMG the emo's the emo's the emo's
jeez, get a life, seems like people do more worrying about emo's than emo's do about corporate made razors. Get a real beef or STFU

not to mention the lack of SSL is why some myspace accounts get hacked ... and the ghosted myspace sites that log and capture your l / p

anyone hear about the recent suicide attributed to a myspace "relationship?"

check it out

I use the apps on my facebook to pass the time while im at work. Its usefull for keeping in touch with my out of state friends and buddies that are overseas right now. Myspace on the other hand is nothing more then a scam and spam site run by a Nigerian Spamer who lives in his mother's basement.

Wait, what? You can secure a network composed of thousands of 12 year olds?

The search engine on it is awful, I don't see how you find people. I tried using the school locator feature, and I knew absolutely nobody from my highschool, and even putting in several names of people I knew (exact names) I got no matches.

Not to mention it is filled with ads that I can't stand.
