This is my short review of my newly purchased LG DM2792D LED monitor. This is a 27 inch monitor with a 1920x1080p resolution. It has an IPS panel, I have confirmed it is 8 bit panel, there is no banding on it.

Below I am going to list the monitors I have , some will be referenced in the review:

Samsung 27a750D 120hz TN panel
Apple 27 Cinema Display IPS panel
Samsung F2380mx PVA panel

This panel has a very fast reaction time, there is little blur with no overdrive compensation turned on( will be referred to as ODC going forward). This monitor gives you three choices for ODC, off, low and high. I found that on off it was faster then my Apple 27 inch cinema display and WAY faster then the Samsung f2380mx with overdrive on fastest setting! It is slower then the Samsung 750d 120hz but that should be no shock to anyone.

With the ODC on low or high it seems to have some overshoot drive as in the image blurs before the object. I also noticed some input lag with the odc engaged. Needless to say I was so happy with it off I have kept the ODC off.

Input lag: Same as the Samsung f2380mx which was less then one frame. If you engage ODC or dynamic contrast etc it increases the lag, kinda like a tv would. The tv will ask you if the hdmi input is for pc, you select yes and you will get perfect 4:4:4 chroma! This is good, the input lag is also reduced to less then one frame when input is labeled PC.

Now, I played a lot of games on it yesterday, Battlefield bad company 2, NFS hot Pursuit, DMC4, SF4, Resident evil 5. Everything looked amazing on this! The blur was very minimal, this is a very fast IPA panel.

Comparing this LG to the Apple cinema display, the cinema display obviously has more pixels but from a one foot on I couldn’t see a difference except the icons and lettering were A LOT smaller on the Apple. Also the LG handles motion better even with no ODC then the Apple cinema display does.

Comparing the LG to the Samsung 750d 120 hz panel is a JOKE. The 750d being a tn panel had sever color changes depending on the angle you view it, it is so bad that the edges turn color when viewing straight on. This is one of the major weakness of this panel. The clarity was not as good as the LG either because it still has an AG filter put over it ( its like plastic).

Uniformity: The LG Dm2792D had the best uniformity of the bunch, the Apple Cinema display came in second and the F2380mx was good too. The Samsung 750d had the worst uniformity of the bunch by far. This panel’s best strength is the lack of motion blur at 120hz or even at 60hz, other then that I don’t have anything nice to say about it.

Overall I am very impressed by this monitor. Below are pictures I took removing the AG filter, my impressions and review are going by if you remove the filter. With the filter on the picture looks somewhat stale and graining, as I am very sensitive to AG filters I had to remove this one. I just had a feeling that underneath it was a beautiful clear picture and sure enough after removing it I got a PRISTINE and clear picture!! I highly recommend this monitor when it hits stateside OR if you want you can purchase on eBay. Mine was made in Korea, I would imagine the ones sold in the US will be made in Mexico. Please keep this in mind, that the review is based off the monitor being made in Korea, so there could be differences (quality wise) when it hits our shores. Any questions let me know! Pictures below!

The AG filter peels off like you would remove a screen protector from an iphone, very easy!:

Here is some idea how even the blacks are , as this panel is VERY uniform:

That's an awesome monitor!

Now if they made it non-glossy and created mounting holes, I'd be all over it.

Well, to be fair if you don't remove the AG filter its reflection is similar to the Samsung F2380mx monitor, not too much reflection.

I too wish it had VESA mounts, now I will have to do a custom mounting to my ergotron mx arm, as the stock stand the monitor came with is 1: ugly and 2: almost no adjustment and NO height adjustment. I need the monitor about 2-3 inches higher then it is now and the articulated arm will do that for me.

What caused this recent trend toward no VESA mounts? it seems so pointless and deliberately awkward, what do the display designers think they gain by preventing people from using LCD arms and wall mounts?

Sime-glossy form LG WTF? :)

Could you show a black image on your monitor and make a picture from the side of the monitor so we can see how the IPS-Glow is.

The front panel is glass, it just has this stupid screen protector/AG filter on it. When removed its glass :)

Hmm, well the picture with RE5 is at angle, I can try to take a pic of it with a blank black screen at an angle. It has some glow but its not anywhere near the Apple cinema display glow!

Is the bezel overall slimmer than the one on the IPS277L? or about the same? If you're planning on doing any more photos it might be useful to see one with a bright/coloured image on screen so that it makes a clear contrsat with the bezel.

Looks like a good monitor/TV overall. Nice review, thanks :)

Yes, I will take more pics tonite. The bezel is 10mm and that includes the metal outer ring. I had debezzeled my Samsung f2380mx monitor and it had a 12mm bezel. So needless to say a monitor that is 4 inches bigger and 2mm smaller bezel is very impressive in person! No need to debezel this guy I have decided, the silver border is actually aluminium, very nice!

They're the same monitor. The DM2792 is the HDTV version of the IPS277l. It's like comparing a Samsung S27A350 and a T27A350 (same monitor, one with more inputs, remote, and a few other HDTV features).

How do you like the bottom bar where all the buttons are?

Personally, I'd prefer it if the bezel was just as thin on the bottom as well.

Thats a good question. In pictures I wasn't sure of it and planned to debezel the monitor BUT once getting it its pretty dark in person and aluminium. Its not as thick as it looks, its just that the sides and top are soo skinny. I would say overall I like it, but could understand preferring it to be the same all around size wise.

DM2792D is has passive 3D, no? IPS277 doesent. Which means totally different panel. There is also the TM2792D, whatever difference there might be.

Correct its passive 3d and came with glasses. This a diffeerent panel then what LG has been previously selling.

Pretty monitor...but 27" and only 1080p?

I had an apple 27 inch 1440p and for gaming it was not ideal to me. This LG panel was exactly what I was looking for :)

My mistake. I was under the impression that they were selling a 3D and a sans-3D model, and that this was the latter.

In my opinion that's the perfect way that manufacturer's should apply AG coating. If you don't like it, simply peel it off. In fact, that is what I first assumed was the problem with my Dell 2412... but of course there was no plastic to peel off.

Do you happen to have any calibrated black levels for that monitor? I expect it'll be worse than the Samsung, but how is it in regard to the ACD? White or purple IPS glow?

If you google TM2792D there is a LG pdf overview of some of these displays.

Under TM2792D there is mention of WiDi, 'Smartshare' and LAN (wireless?) under the specs. Does the DM2792D have any of these?

It might be that TM vs DM is regional code, or TM could be on of those dubious deals high street retailers get - change the product code by one letter and claim it's a store 'exclusive' product (basically so they don't have to do any price matching vs internet sellers)

Also spotted an IPS7W - it has wifi and DLNA on the specs.

The glow is a very dark blueish purple. Its blacks are not as dark as the f2380mx but the colors and viewing angle on the lg is much better. The blacks are alot deeper then the apple cinema display I had :)

Im debating debezeling this monitor, what do you guys think, bad idea?

Hmm, if it is that easy, then it seems to be just a protective film applied in order to prevent scratches ocurring during shipment and packaging/unpackaging the monitor. Those thin, protective films are normally supposed to be removed. Does the manual state anything regading this? :)

No, no, this is not protective film ha. Its the same ag filter on their cinema tvs, go to a store and check it out , it does take some time and effort to take off but I was trying explain that its very easy to do :)

It's really great! I am getting ready to debezel this! I will take pictures of the process, should be interesting. From what I can tell the actual bezel is super thin!

I bought this off of eBay, very fast shipping, took 3 days from Korea.

You thinking on grabbing this monitor? I love it! Way better then the f2380mx, s27a750d and the 27 acd :)

If I could sell my 1440p CrossOver 2720MDP & the LG cost around 500$ I would get one and trade the resolution for 3D :) I didn't realize the LG cost 775$ on ebay, especially since it should cost no more than 600$, I'm not willing to pay that much and take the gamble (I've gambled enough on the CrossOvers this year) since IPS are so commonly inconsistent in terms of panel uniformity and contrast.

Here is a good review in Korean from Playerwares:
http://www.playwares.com/xe/index.php?mid=maingame&document_srl=24061348

1300:1 contrast ratio!

It's pretty responsive once the ODC is engaged but there is some overshoot:

I have found that the LG panel in this monitor is better uniformity and contrast then the ACD LG panel. Also the responsiveness is better too even with the ODC off. I am running it off because I don't mind some normal blur vs the overshoot the ODC adds. It still a faster panel then the 1440p LG panel everyone is using now adays :)

I paid $795 for the LG, but that is bc I didnt have a monitor and I wanted this one. I would wait until it hits Canada and US, it should go for $600 ish I think.

I am in the process of debzeling this monitor and getting the metal retention bracket powder coated black. Then I am custom mounting this to a ergotron mx arm. Should look legit when done :)

Edit: Also because this is the first non 1440p IPS lg with glass panel I have to say console owners will enjoy this as much as pc gamers :)

I set the monitor to the ISF 1 settings, 2.2 gamma, 6500k, looks amazing! Blacks and whites and everything in between looks really good!

1300:1 contrast ratio would be quite impressive. I really wonder what the calibrated black levels will be on this thing. At that contrast, it should equal or better S-PVA black levels ... not as good as A-MVA or C-PVA, but black should actually be black, not dark grey.

A bit surprised by the price. Due to the lower resolution, I expected it to be in the Korean panel range... $300-$400ish.

The blacks are not as deep as the F2380mx which I believe is a c-pva panel BUT the motion is much better and so is the viewing angles. I would say its alot better contrast then the 1440p LG ips panels.

Price to import from Korea to the UK is pretty expensive. It's ~£500+Duty+VAT which is enough to buy a good mid range 1440p display, although the DM2792D is supposed to be supplied with 2 pairs of 3d glasses.

I'm waiting for LG in the UK and EU to get their act together and see what they're actually going to sell here - quite often flagship models aren't sold in this territory, usually sellers only want the cheapest or biggest and quality/features are secondary considerations so there is a real possibility DM2792D or similar won't be sold here.

So far, the models I've identified with the slim bezel are:
DM2792D
TM2792D
IPS277L (already listed at many stores, but no stock)
IPS237W EDIT: 23" model not 27"
I'd really like to know if there is a real difference between the 3D and non 3D panels in terms of motion blur and contrast etc. 3D isn't so important

If it can match s-pva on blacks, which based on the contrast ratio, it probably should, I'd personally find its blacks acceptable. Glass and purple instead of white glow should help some too. I think typical ips screens range from about 700-900ish contrast?

Right, ips panels on the 1440p's are in the 700-900 range. I think its a noticable difference. I hope this panel hits the states as I would grab a second one for portrait haha.

Has anyone used a 27 inch monitor in portrait? Sounds kinda crazy ha!

I dont think there will be a IPS277W. Its IPS237W only. With the wifi, that is.

D2743P is the one I'm waiting for though. I dont care that much about the bezel or foot. The tech and specs are what I'm looking for. Perhaps its gonna be asia only though since its been out there for a while and refuse to pop up anywhere else:

I'm not liking it for its cost. But then, I'm going off Ebay cost, we'll see what retail is. Also, this is the full-featured 3D TV version, not the baseline monitor, IE, IPS277l. That will cost even less.

btw. Hows the IPS glow on this monitor?

Its not bad at all, I am sensitive to it and straight on its a non issue. The glow is a dark purpleish blue and with the darker contrast of this panel its MUCH better then the ACD.

I had the LG oled screen ( the 15 inch one). I would say this panel has better uniformity on it ( not referring to the blacks) but the image on the screen. This panel has the best uniformity I have seen from an lcd! I really am still diggin this monitor and that is not normally the case for me with displays, after the week honeymoon I generally find faults with them ha, even the oled I found faults, poor uniformity , blur, low res, too small etc.

I debezeled the LG the other night. Overall its not worth it, only the side metal and front removes, the glass is actually the polarizer which you cant remove so the small
black border stays. Only positive to debezeling this monitor is that the bottom portion is the same thickness as the sides and top.

When taking it apart I can confirm this is an LG IPS panel and not some other panel.

Also been playing around with the ODC and I find that on low its pretty much perfect, a little overshoot but not as much as on high and the blur is greatly reduced with ODC on low. Also I have to clarify that the ODC does NOT add input lag, it was all in my head because I kept going back and forth while playing battlefield and there was no difference between them for input lag but the blur was alot less.

sounds like the old polarizing filter is back, is it purple from one side and more orange from the opposite side? other filters I've seen end up looking a little red from one side and green from the other (when looking at black backgrounds)

I just see purple tint, I dont see orange or white. It could be an older polarizer or a new one, not sure.
