My Device Manager is Empty..

When I open Device Manager, nothing shows up. The area where all my devices should be listed is empty. A search of Microsoft's knowledge base says that this can occur when Plug 'n Play is disabled. The thing is though, Plug 'n Play is not disabled on my machine. Are there any ideas about what can cause this?
