My desktop icons are auto arranging on boot

They used to stay where I put them. I recently had some encounter with a trojan/virus, which seems to be cleaned off now.

But all my desktop icons that used to stay where I put them now rearrange in rows to the left on reboot. Everything else seems ok about the system that I can tell.

You can right click the desktop and under "view" check "auto arrange icons". Which should cause exactly this behavior. Problem is, it's simply not checked.

Any ideas?
 
It may be a registry error, try the instructions at this link (these instructions are for windows xp) what os are you using?

you may also want to read this link, as this issue could also be because of the virus you had.. there is a link near the bottom of the post for a fix to correct the icon problem.
