My BenQ FP241WZ

Therefore, I feel this monitor is far from perfect. With the blank signal problem, its unbearable, but perhaps if that were fixed, it would be tolerable and acceptable. Am I asking too much? No. After all, it is the "perfect" monitor. Is it going to happen? Probably not, so there are a few features I can sacrifice and live with, but a blank signal, red saturation on VGA, 72% of NTSC color gamut, and untrue PIP are big deterrants for me.
Hey Pete,
Where did you hear that the WZ model has a blank signal problem or red saturation on VGA?

Well, I'm getting ready to call BenQ again to find out what type panel this thing has. I have the new panel number, M240UWO1 V2 for the new A-MVA panel. And I have a screw driver. I think I'll threaten to go in if they don't tell me.

You'll threaten to void your warrenty if they don't tell you the panel type?

Even if you do open her up - don't admit it to them if you actually do it - they might put that on their record.

According to TFT Central its:

BenQ FP241WZ 6ms G2G + BFI 24"WS AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0)

PS: how is the backlight (and bleed) on an all black screen? Is it uniform?

Another little question for anyone who has the WZ including Higgy, how is the backlight uniformity?

When you are on a black screen is there much or any backlight bleed and is it uniform?

Also, is the backlight level adjustable on the BenQ?

Cheers,

Mike
Doesn't it have to be really dark in the room to be able to see? It is really light in this room right now. I tried it, it looks like the monitor is off, I'll have to wait until it gets dark. I think?

I got through to BenQ U.S. tech supervisors............... answering machine..........Looking back at the screwdriver.......

This is a review of the WZ model from a Chinese web site translated to English, thanks to n0xlf. Third paragfaph (hic) from the bottom.

Must admit, FP241WZ testing laboratory testing of the data is of superior performance among hundreds LCD differences, it gives the impression that the panel is indeed refreshing new AMVA, all the parameters are in excellent shape. reaction time and visual angle of the two projects is the most vulnerable to weakness leaped outstanding.

Here is the information that n0xlf provided. Please keep in mind that a lot is lost in translation.

And a quick google search of "fp241wz a-mva" produces a lot of other articles that support that it will indeed be A-MVA:

This has an interesting comment in it that says "When from the menu button + power source button or special starting method it is update of firm with USB, but easy what" - Maybe they were wishing the firmware could be updated that easily, or maybe that's what you can actually do...

This is a good comparison of the FP241W and WZ, although this may have been a pre-production model..They seem to indicate that the W is generally brighter..

There are probably tons more, but that's a good start if you want to read more about the FP241WZ model (which I'm waiting for!) - buy.com actually lists it now, but not in stock...

Never said the WZ has those problems. I said those problems are huge deterrants for me. So if in time, those problems do show up on the WZ, I will not probably not buy it unless nothing better comes out. Give your monitor a month or two, Higgy, and let us know if you experience the blank signal problem or anything else.

I asked a guy from Benq by e-mail about the panel for the FP241wz and he answered the following:

Sai Tang
to me

I just check with our HQ. We used PVA panel made by AUO.

Sai

I don't realy understand because AUO make only one type of panel for 24'' which is M240UW01 V2. I think it is a P-MVA

I do not think this guy understood what the HQ told him

They also have a new 24 inch A-MVA panel as well, which was rumored to be in the FP241WZ -- this is what's causing all the confusion.

Yes you are right on the AUO website it is AMVA. Is it better that P-MVA?

I sent back any e-mail and explain to him the issue. He answered to me immediately. He told me that he will check again. I keep you posted

Hopefully all the FP241WZ use the same panel. Anyway I already bought mine, I should get it on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks for the linkage Shuiming!

There is the proof, the FP241W uses the M240UW01 V0 which is a P-MVA panel, and the FP241WZ uses the M240UW01 V2 panel which is indeed AUO's new A-MVA panel:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/4.htm#a-mva

Both panels seem to be essentially the same, but the WZ has some tweaks which allows it to do BFI.

Ross

Thanks for the links, is Higgy still taking his apart to confirm for us? ;)

Hows the backlight bleed Higgy?

Cheers,

Mike

I just ordered my BenQ FP241WZ a minute ago. I hope I won't be disappointed. It should be here on monday I guess. :)

Flexarius, I kinda like that silver frame on yours. I don't think I like what's on your thermometer though. 5° burr! What do you think of perfect motion?

I think I'm going to wait for the answer for another day are so. If I haven't heard by then I'm going to disembowel (as the Chinese would put it) mine.

@ higgy

"Perfect Motion" is really cool. I used some recorded HDTV Trailers from Test TVChannels and DVDs in PAL. On level 3 of Perfect motion you see fewer streaks, particularly of movie credits. The display is darker with light flickers, on Windows Desktop the function is deactivated.

Which attitudes do you use for brigthness, contrast ,sharpness etc?

I have no problems with Windows Vista Ultrimate x64 and the original drivers from the CD, i installed it manually. Is there a privot-tool for automatic rotation?

Is it automatically disabled?

It seems to me the "Z" model is the one to get if it is essentially the same panel with the ability to turn on/off or adjust the BFI feature. Plus it looks like on some online stores the Z model is actually cheaper than the non "Z" model.

What's keeping me from pulling the trigger is that I keep seeing something about a "flicker" effect with BFI turned on....what does everyone mean by this?

I think its inherent with the way it works, its effectively inserting a black frame in between each real frame of video to mask the motion blur. What I would like to know is how noticable it is when playing movies or games.

I suspect each person will notice it a bit differently depending on how sensitive each persons eyes are. I am a little worried because I can see standard CRTs refreshing below about 72hz with my naked eye when lots of people don't even notice 60hz on CRTs flickering!

Still with the Z version at least it can be switched off if its really noticable to me. The only thing stopping me buying the WZ right now is the fact my GFX card and my current Viewsonic VX910 dont seem to like playing in DVI mode anymore, so until I can check my GFX card in another DVI monitor I will have to wait. Patiently.... :)

Mike

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered one. If anyone is interested, you can order from Tiger Direct (yea, I know they are not the greatest) through Amazon.com. Comes out to be around $800 shipped. If anything goes wrong and Tiger Direct is not very accomodating, I have CC company for that.

I have a PS3 so I will provide some feedback regarding 1080p 1:1 as well as 720p 1:1 and aspect ratio mode.

I got an update from BenQ and he confirmed to me that :

BenQ FP241W,FP241W Z and FP241VW all used AUO's AMVA panel.

What panel is used in the Dell 2407WFP as this is the only other monitor I would consider over the BenQ WZ.

I have had conflicting reports with some people saying side by side the Dell is better and some saying the BenQ is better. Hmmmm

Er, the FP241W uses AUO's P-MVA panel -- this has been well known for a while. The new A-MVA panel wasn't even announced until after the FP241W was available. Did your guy explicitly say that they were switching the panel in new FP241W's over to the A-MVA, or was he claiming that it's always been available with the A-MVA panel. If it's the latter, your guy seems to be confused. :)

Well, he just repeated to me whatt the HQ told him. But yes he is very confused because the first time he came back to me (previous message) , he told me that FP241WZ was using a PVA panel from AUO which does not exist.

Do you know the differtence between the P-MVA and AMVA panel? Which one is better?

@ higgy

Which attitudes do you use for brigthness, contrast ,sharpness etc?

I have no problems with Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and the original drivers from the CD, i installed it manually. Is there a privot-tool for automatic rotation?
I am using the default settings from the factory in standard. Brightness 90, contrast 50, sharpness 3. Didn't you get an error message when you inserted the driver CD? Mine has a part number near the center of the disk, 5B.L2R01.012 There is a pivot tool on the disk but I didn't try it. Did you get the auto adjustment utility off of the disk?

Here's 3 pages of high resolution desktop backgrounds >http://www.hamaddarwish.com/

You probably won't want a static background having Vista Ultimate. How about some new Dreamscenes? Way down on this page http://microsoft.blognewschannel.com/ there are two groups of them. But you'll have to download this http://www.stardock.com/products/deskscapes/downloads.asp to run them.

Has anyone found anything in their new WZ that they would consider to be defective? I haven't.

No "blank/signal loss" from the DVI input then? I wonder if this only affects the W and not the WZ? MrPatate who has the W has problems with his ATI card and his so I don't want to suffer similar with the WZ. :(

My monitor has been on for one week straight now, no hiccups here. I would be more convinced that his problem was the monitor if it happened when hooked up to a gaming system only, or some other input.

That's an insane price. The monitor is TWICE as expensive in Sweden. Does buy.com ship to Europe? Do I need some sort of converter for voltage to get a US screen to work here, you guys use 110V right?

Sorry Marvin, I went through their web site and here is what I found. Buy.com ships within the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii only. We use 110 volts in the U.S.
