My BenQ FP241WZ

Ok, so lets here about the good, the bad and the ugly!

Like to know about the arm your using there too, is the Vesa mounting stuff easy? Do you use the plate that comes with the stand and clips into the back or does everything come with the monitor arm?

looks good, but the idea of inserting black frames into things to smooth out motion never really appealed to me. Be cool to actually see the difference in the real world in games and movies.

I am very happy with this arm. It is high quality and adjustable to the weight of the monitor. The 7045 comes in three weight classifications. The model is a 7045-800 is perfect for the weight of this monitor. It comes with everything you need including two VESA mounting plates and is super easy to install. I would really like to know what type of panel this has. If any one knows how to determine that, short of tearing it apart, please let me know.

Are you using VGA connection? In this case are the text sharp? Do you have any problem with the red color as some found with the FP241W?
Did you test the 1:1 aspect ratio?

I would be very interested in this info as well, since there have been so many rumors about this. It will be nice to finally have a definitive answer, if only someone knows how to determine this.

Well, it seems that there is some good news so far -- this image confirms that the aspect ratio controls have made it into this model. Since the monitor is just released I would assume this firmware is present on all of them, not just a subset as with the FP241W. So it seems that if 1:1 mapping is important to you, ordering the Z model is one way to confirm that you'll receive it.
 
What I'm interesting in knowing is if the AMA-Z tech uses black frame insertion (as claimed by BenQ) or screening (as demonstrated by the behardware.com preview)

Hello again, sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your questions. I've had to reload vista. What a pain. To make a long story short, I cannot find Vista 64 bit drivers for this WZ model. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I need to take care of this problem first. I will get back with you soon.

I tried out the VGA connection today. The text looks sharp and I don't see any red tint in the blacks like they were talking about.
The 1:1 aspect ratio seem to work perfectly. I removed it from my articulating arm, put it back on the stock stand (which does not have a tilt) and connected it to my HD cable TV box thru the HDMI connection. The picture was beautiful and smooth.

Edit: Sorry, I should have said that the monitor stand is not defective. It tilts forwards and backwards OK. I was referring to the problem with the W model where the stand has a slight lean to it.

Are the screws from the monitor arm that attach to the monitor going into the plastic framing? Or is there a metal plate that clips into the frame, then you attach the monitor arm to the metal plate?

If you remove the stock stand you will see four screws. That is where the arm connects. Remove the four screws, and attach the arm there. There is a metal frame behind the plastic. ;)

From what I understand, black frame insertion (BFI), was renamed to AMA-Z, then renamed to Perfect Motion. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u285/higgy57/013.jpg

This monitor comes with a software CD. This is the message that I get when I run the CD on my Vista 64 bit system.

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

I went to BenQ site and I cannot find any 64-bit drivers or software. I thought this monitor was supposed to be "Vista premium certified." I will contact BenQ support tomorrow to see what the deal is.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but when you say it doesn't tilt, do you mean that you can't make the monitor lean forward or back? This contradicts the pictures in the manual that you linked to earlier. Is the stand different from that of the FP241W?

Sorry, I should have said that the monitor stand is not defective. It tilts forwards and backwards OK. I was referring to the problem with the W model where the stand has a slight lean to it. :) I edited the original post
 
I'm very tempted to buy this monitor as my old one is broken, using my 6,5 yo CRT atm. :eek: Higgy, did you say it worked perfectly in the 1:1 mode now? I'm planning to use my Wii on it aswell and I want it to look as good as possible. Have you tried the component input yet? :)

I don't know if these low quality pictures from my old Xbox will help. It is hooked into my component input.

It seems to be running OK on the generic windows vista drivers except I don't have the software that rotates the picture on your screen when you rotate the monitor on the stand. There's also some other software on the disk that I need.

That is where I am having a problem. It is going to take a very high definition video to demonstrate perfect motion. I don't think a picture will make a good demonstration. I am guessing that the pictures that BenQ put out are simulations.
 
In the old behardware preview, taking a pic of the monitor showed the screening effect much like old crts. If this monitor uses screening, you should be able to catch with the camera. Similarly, if it actually uses BFI, if you take a few pictures, you may be able to capture the screen completely black as it is inserting a black frame.

Out of curiousty, in the old behardware preview, they mentioned the screening effect was somewhat perceptable when viewing anything that was static. Can you tell us your early impression of "perfect motion"?

I just got my FP241WZ today from TigerDirect. I was very skeptical about buying it, but after some thought I figured I might as well try it. So far I am loving it after a little bit of tweaking in the menu. I am currently using DVI but I did have my xbox360 hooked up over VGA and I didn't notice any red tint like the normal 241w was suffering. 1:1, full and aspect are all selectable in the video menu. I did notice that when I tried selecting 1920x1080 with my xbox over VGA, the left side was off the screen. I was not able to correct this with any of the available modes. I heard that the normal 241w was not compatible with the VGA cable for the 360, is this the same problem? I mean it looked crisp and clear, but part of the image was off the side of the screen. It's currently setup with the component cables and 1080p and looks great.

For PC use the text is crisp and colors seem pretty accurate. Bright and vivid when playing games such as WoW. I have used and sent back 2 Dell 2407wfp's (both A03), Gateway FPD2485W, NEC 20wmgx2, and a Apple 23" CinemaDisplay HD. The 2407's were pretty nice, colors seemed a little washed out. First one I received was an A03 with a stuck pixel, so i tried my luck at a 2nd for an A04. But I received another A03 with a dead pixel this time. Then the 2485 from gateway was next. Out of the box the monitor was dark, really dark. I remember using the 21" version about a year ago with the same problem. Took alot of tweaking to get a decent picture but it still had a very over saturated and dark look. 360 looked pretty good on it and it had 1:1 capability. But, the killer was the dark smearing that alot have complained about while playing games. I couldn't stand it anymore so I took it back. I ended up getting the 20mwgx2 to see what all the hype was about. Yes, that is a fantastic display with bright, accurate and crisp images. I would have kept it but I was really wanting something around the 23-24" range. (I do highly recommend this monitor for someone wanting a 20" wide gaming monitor). I thought I was finally done when I bought the CinemaDisplay. It's apple so the design is attractive, but the price is not. Factory settings were amazing and only thing I had to do was raise the gamma a little bit via the nvidia cp. After about a week the monitor developed a stuck pixel and that drove me up the wall. After I saw it, my eyes always seemed to gravitate towards it and ultimately decided it wasn't worth keeping for the price it cost. Plus, the store I bought it from didn't have any others in stock. So, that is how I ended up trying the Benq. I have only been using it for about half a day and so far I am very happy. Only gripe I had was the slanted issue with the stand. I ended up using some force and was able to get the monitor straight.. Only off by about a 1cm at most now. I'll continue to play around with it more and try some other games on it besides Wow, but I think I found a keeper.

(and yes, i'm very anal and probably viewed as having issues by others, but I figure if im gonna spend the money, i might as well be happy with my purchase)
 
My limited experience with BFI so far is only with high definition video. I can notice a small difference for the better. It seems to work like it describes it in the manual that I posted earlier. I downloaded Battlefield 2142 demo but it would not play on the 64 bit system. I will try it again tomorrow on my 32 bit system. More later.
 
Metal409, the bottom button on the right side of the display will center your VGA mode.
 
I don't see what BFI has to do with resolution (or high definition). Just take any camera, even standard definition, videotape your monitor, then play back the video and see if you see the "screening" effect show on the video on BeHardware or not. If it "screens" then it's not true BFI.
 
I am really considering this monitor as well, but I'm a little wary ordering from TigerDirect. Their 6 month rating at resellerratings is not so hot. No one else seems to have it in stock for the right price though... I wonder when Newegg will get it.

I hear you, only reason I bought it form them was because their main warehouse is only 30mins away and I was able to pick it up.
