Has anyone gotten their hands on one of the variants of this? Looks like the primary difference between them is clock speed from the factory:

Lightning Z - $869 on NewEgg (sold out)

  • Boost Clock / Base Clock / Memory Frequency
    1721 MHz / 1607 MHz / 11124 MHz (Lightning Mode)
    1695 MHz / 1582 MHz / 11124 MHz (Gaming Mode)
    1582 MHz / 1480 MHz / 11016 MHz (Silent Mode)
Lightning X - $859 on NewEgg

  • Boost Clock / Base Clock / Memory Frequency
    1683 MHz / 1569 MHz / 11124 MHz (Lightning Mode)
    1657 MHz / 1544 MHz / 11124 MHz (Gaming Mode)
    1582 MHz / 1480 MHz / 11016 MHz (Silent Mode)
Lightning - Haven't seen online

Owner's club over at Overclock.net: http://www.overclock.net/t/1633752/msi-gtx-1080-ti-lightning-z-owners-club.

I will get my Z on Wednesday after having a snafu with my old address delayed my Friday shipment. :(

They're probably binning the chips, nothing more. PCB is most likely the same between all of them.

Kind of disappointed this new Lightning looks pretty much exactly like all the other three fan coolers on the market now. What happened to the yellow accenting?

I'm bummed, too - especially because I have an MSI XPOWER mobo - so now not even any of the accents really "match". Ah well. I've always been kind of an amateur at matching colors - always into the best components as primary.

That cooler is HUUUUUUGE! Make sure to post pics, temps, clocks, and weight when you get her in!

Looks nice, but $50 for the bracket? Don't you think that's just a little pricey for what it is?

Yup, very pricey. It is a local guy who is a pretty well known modder so I like supporting him. It's high quality and all of that, but yeah - not $50 worth in my opinion.

Pumped out some 3DMark - I crash at +80 Core Clock at any voltage (standard BIOS), but +75 made it through 4 different 3DMark benches just fine.

It goes without saying - but no temp issues at all.
Graphics score seems a little low for an overclocked 1080 Ti.

Were your benchmark results any better with the LN2 BIOS?

Yes, but not my much. I'm doing gaming stable benching - not trying to set records. I'm only about 300 off on the graphics score from being top 100 worthy so I don't think it's that far off.

LN2 settings in the description at 3DMark's site. Ran Unigine Superposition for 30 minutes and 60 minutes stress tests without issue. More voltage doesn't get me a better clock - so it looks like 2063 MHz is max for my card.

Wow I loved my 770 and 980ti lightning, were probably some of the best looking/performance cards you could buy. Now they look cheaper and boring.

2088.jpg

Got the card today, and aside from a few things which are prob not a biggie to me, i am pretty happy with it. Been messing for a little bit and i ended up lowering my memory over clock cause while in benchmarking it went fine in one game i play, War Thunder, i got a few strange artifacts. There was a rainbow hue to the sunlight, randomly, so i backed it off. However with upping it slowly, I think this is where i will settle for the rest of the week until the weekend to see if it's gonna hold. Did an hour or so of matches and no issues.

2088 in game on the core, steady, and +300 on the memory. Again, it seems it's my memory that's getting funky, and the gaming was using just a custom fan curve. 45% fan speed to keep it at 54/55c is dead silent to me, and I am content.

Hey everyone ! I have a question. Maybe someone can help me. I have 1080 Ti Ligtning Z, and when I put it to LN2 Bios, I' ve noticed that I can use extended mode in MSI Afterburner. When I did it, it seems there is unlocked voltage, not in percent, but mv. Maximum is 1162 mv to the core. Is it possible that MSI have unlocked the core? Is it safe to use it? Because I afraid a little ..

That's on purpose - it is "safe" in the sense that you can use it but be careful (watch temps, make sure you have adequate cooling, etc.) before you crank it up. :)

Thanks ! Hmmmm. Have you tried to use it ?

Yeah, in general, it's wholly unnecessary - unless you're actually on LN2. Air and water cooling get the same results on pretty much any GTX 1080 Ti (with small variances).

Yeah, maybe...but I've noticed something really impressive. I had Asus Strix 1080 Ti OC before. I did some tests. Rise of the Tomb Raider, built in benchmark. Strix max OC, max voltage, 2076 - 2063 boost, + 400 memory clock, custom fan curve, almost 100 %. 2k resolution, ultra, SMAA. Score - 115 fps
Lightning Z, just stock, gaming mode (1582 mhz ) 1974-1962 boost stock fan curve. 2k resolution, ultra, SMAA. Score - 115 fps !
Lightning Z is really AMAZING !

Strix OC profile (1594 mhz), power limit max, temp limit max, fan curve almost 100 %, 2000 - 1987 mhz boost hits only 110 fps in this benchmark
