Microsoft has decided not to kill off the best program ever made. For now.

LOL. I still use the hell out of MS paint for super fast screen grabs that need basic editing and modification.

It loads in a second. It is an ultra simple program for ultra simple tasks. I can crop an image quicker than I can with Photoshop. Modern photo viewing programs from MS seem to take a few seconds to load, much like their new "3D paint". The old Photo Viewer from the XP era is instant when it comes to opening photos. No other 3rd party program is as fast.

Paint has its place.

paint is just so fast and easy. as said it is great for a quick screen grab and edit. I use it a ton at work, i use gimp for more complex edits but 90% of my photo work is with paint.

What would really be the point of removing Paint?
To "force" people to use their lackluster 3Dpaint metro app, but maybe they're finally realizing that tactic hasn't worked and only makes users resent them more.

The real problem is somewhere Microsoft lost the concept of improvement as opposed to change. Now they think that simply making a change counts as making it better, and that's worked out spectacularly bad for an OS almost 4 years old and still basically in Win7's shadow.

Snipping Tool looks like it's disappearing too... I still use Windows Pictures and Fax Viewer for all my photos in Windows 10 too... lol. Simple Regedit and you get it back. I am sure Paint will be the same.

Same. Is there even a 3rd party program that can simply load a picture as quick? I really don't want anything else. I've been using the registry edits in Win 8/10 to keep it going.

I find it funny how an AMD 2500 can load an image quicker with Windows Pictures & Fax Viewer quicker than a 4670K could open an image with their replacement program. I assume the situation is the same on my AMD 2700X.

Regressive progress is good to Microsoft.

For simply viewing images - nope! I actually don't mind the new photo viewer modern app and it's still pretty quick. However it's designed as more of an all-in-one gallery and it has some bloat that many folks don't need. The joys of them trying to match mobile device gallery apps.

I use paint for almost every pic I post here. I did notice, after this thread, that the icon that said "moving to the store" is now gone(im on the latest insider).

edit: just used it twice to post in political memes.
edit2: and again...

prtscrn/alt+prtscrn, paste in Irfanview, then F12 if I want to do some simple editing.

It loads as fast as paint, so go ahead puke all over paint like you did to calc Microsoft.

Cool, irfanview does open just as fast and it has a butt-tonne more features than paint
You rock!

Bleh, don't use paint.

Irfanview as a viewer and lite resizer / basic manipulation. It loads as fast as paint, but has features.

If you actually need to do anything : Gimp with the GMIC-Qt plugin. I love the artistic plugins and B&W stuff. Really amazing work folks have done there.

I stopped using MS paint when I discovered paint.net about 4-5 years ago. vastly superior, at least in terms of features

Depends on what you need it for, no need to wait for the 3-4 seconds for Paint.net to launch when either paint or irfanview opens in under a second if all you gonna do is document a screenshot.

There will always be other options like gimp and paint.net for heavy lifting.

Irfanview is faster than the Xp image viewer.

Agreed!

I still use MS Paint nearly daily for little edits.

Aside from Windows it is the only Microsoft software that I regularly use! I don't see why they want to get rid of it? It's not like it needs on-going support

Yeah irfanview is a Swiss army knife, it excels once you learn enough of the keyboard shortcuts.

I regularly use paint to shrink 24Mpixel photos for email to friends/family.
Its so fast to simply load and save to get higher jpg compression, and reduce each axis by 25% to 50% for a huge drop in MBytes.
Quality is very good considering the recompression of jpg to even stronger lossy compression.
Great tool.

Great tool.

jpegtran will hand all that in a simple command line and gives better quality/bit

Am I the only one that forgot Paint existed?

yes..

about the only thing i need paint for is to print screen and cut out sections i need from a picture which it does with 2 clicks.. 3D paint pretty much does the same shit though with a different UI so whether or not paint disapears for good doesn't really matter to me. irfanview is a good alternative though, i'm just to lazy to use a 3rd party app.

Like others I use old school ms paint almost daily for work, clipping screen grabs, marking important parts etc

MS needs to have a separate "corporate edition" version of windows that they don't screw around with or make unwanted updates to. But I guess that is just Win 7.

So when they kill it, they will cite 'lack of usage' lack of interest.... And eveyone will know its bullshit.. but its their product after all. And yes, I was just using it not 4 hours ago.

MSPaint is an invaluable tool; same with snipping tool. I'd hate to lose them but I do have Photoscape to fall back on.

Been using Paint.NET for gosh, like 15 years now it seems. Love it. Just complex enough to handle most jobs. It’s Photoshop Lite, without any of the keyboard shortcuts.

Not sure how "lack of usage" was ever believable considering half the crude internet memes I see are clearly created using Paint.
