Hi, I'm moving into my new-to-me house. This house does not have an ethernet network, I'd like to install one myself, but I don't know how to go about going through walls and stuff. do you guys have any links to DIY sites that specifically tackle this job? I haven't been able to find any.

how old is the house?

basically, in most cases, its just a matter of going in the basement, drill up with a 1/2" hole right into the wall space above, then cut your box out in the drywall upstais. you should be able to shove the wire up from the basement hole you drilled to the hole in the wall upstairs.

now, if its an old house like mine, and youre trying to run 14/2 to outside walls, and all the outside walls are sitting on 12" railroad ties... then watch out. might want to call a pro....

Drop ceiling in the basement, or drywall?

Basically in the basement ceiling you'll see your electrical wiring go up into the upstairs floor which goes into your upstairs walls. That will tell you where the walls are, so you can put your ethernet cables up in there.
