I am planning to buy Dell U2410 for my 2nd rig. Although I will keep my existing display, but in terms of gaming, the difference between 1680 X 1050 and 1920 X 1200 be huge, or I will hardly feel any differnce?
Now that 1920x1080 will replace 1920x1200,

just like 1680x1050 replaced 1600x1200, for all the same reasons, so does it mean that price of 1920x1200 will high within and will not come down further?

what are you on about mate... 1920x1080 is more mainstream... but it wont replace 1200p which will always be a more desirable resolution when it comes to pc use

1600x1200 was phased out because its a 5:4 resolution - not because 1680x1050 came along

the popularity of 1080p is due to its uniformity and compatibility with native 16:9 [all the consoles, hdtv, etc]

but as long as there are computers out there... there will be 16:10 resolutions like 1920x1200

all that being said - the difference in gaming is... marginal at best... you'll see more detail and pop and sharper this that and the other....

720p to 1200p is a much bigger jump

the major plus isnt just the resolution but the added space as well... moving from 20" to 24" added with the reso bump ... both those are going to make your gaming experience oodles better

I find this disputable. The market's changing in the direction of 16:9 (apparently, production costs are significantly lower than 16:10), so I wouldn't be surprised if, in a few years, everything but niche markets came with 16:9 panels.

1600x1200 is not 5:4 in any way. It's 4:3 always has been, always will. The 5:4 you may be thinking of is 1280x1024. This is your standard stereotypical 19" square monitor.

no matter if the ratio is 1.25 or 1.34 - they are still generally square aspects and thus doomed by the industry moving to widescreen

as of right this instant there are 198 widescreen displays on newegg / 50 non wide

for the foreseeable future / 19:6 is going to be your de facto consumer aspect ratio - if that is going to lead to the phase outage of 1200p ... time is your buddy [and bobs your uncle]

what has me curious is how amd bringing multimonitor gaming to the mainstream is going to influence hardware

sure adding monitor together and getting ultra wide is cool - but i think most would agree that having a little more uninterrupted height would be nice as well...

ah the future :)

IMHO, you'll hardly notice the difference if the screen sizes are otherwise the same
