So a coworker came to me today and stated that he was using his laptop on his carpet floor and then heard a weird ticking/crackling sound. After that his mouse quit working. I asked him if it sounded like an electrical crackling sound and he said, "yeah, that's it". Any suggestions on where to begin on troubleshooting this? I don't know anything about laptops really, so I'm not sure how the mouse works in one. I'm sure he can get a USB mouse and use it in the meantime, but do you think his mouse is gone for good?
