This is just so sad. How can 75% of the parents surveyed actually believe video games contribute to real world violence? You can download the PDF here.

depends who you ask... unltra conservative, right wing, tighty whitey wearing, bible bashing folks would probably think so...
Funny, most the foaming mouth libs in LA are running around screaming about violent video games and guns as the cause of all our woes.
But whatever.

I'm 40 years old and a gamer. I have been since Atari days. I do think that games play some what of a role in how kids behave nowadays
True enough. Personally, I attribute the parenting issue to the breakdown of the large family unit. There's little to no extended family help anymore, and those who do want to help raise the children are regulated to do some babysitting but given a "don't tell me how to raise my kids, just watch them".The same knee jerk reaction that led to condemning everything from Elvis, rock music, and the Beatles for rotting kids minds. The problem is it's easier (and cheaper) for politicians to spread this kind of propaganda than tackling the real cause [snip] It doesn't help that not only does parenting come without a manual,it has no basic requirements either. Anyone can have a kid,few these days seem qualified to.

Doom is more likely to be ok by todays standards. Fantasy world killing demons. Call of Duty is a "realistic" shooter that simulates a "real world situation." My mom wasn't crazy about me playing Doom on my old 386 back in the day.Is it just me, or was there more gore in Doom 1 (which I played as a teen) than the new Call of Duty?

Most parents are stupid.

It's really sad when parents go after video games instead of gun control. Some have even advocated to try and save the right to own a gun over a video game.
I say we should go with Titus's suggestion. Because for the first few years, a lot of us are going to die. Hopefully more gun owners then not.

I'll give you that one as the NRA's PR is just a fucking disgrace. They even suggested that we should have armed guards at every school. Fuck you. How about we send students and teachers to jail and have them learn there. The facilities are already built and are super secure, and there are plenty of high school drop out security guards with experience there, no need to waste taxpayer money on new ones.Wasn't that the NRA (which is obviously more of a right wing organization) saying that video games were the cause of the gun violence after the Sandy Hook shootings?
Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music" ~ Kristian Wilson, Nintendo Inc, 1989

No, we don't. The belief that video games are responsible and not the person is a purely left wing thing.
