Lookie what I found today on craigslist. $110. Guy was moving. Said he had them since 2003 and never really used them.

    Klipsch Ultra Promedia 5.1's

No damage just needs the dust wiped off them. Absolutely fantastic condition and .... THEY WORK!

These things are super rare and hard to find in this condition. They didn't make many of them. Not a lot of people bought them and of the ones that are still around - many have had to be repaired.

This are worth $300 - $350 all day long.

I don't personally see the appeal of computer speakers, new or old. Even good computer speakers will be totally outclassed by a cheap HT receiver, 5 cheap speakers (or better yet 7), and a cheap subwoofer. And as an added bonus, the HT receiver could act as a DAC and a headphone amp also. The compact nature of the computer speaker setup might be interesting for those in a one-bedroom apartment with no desk space available for a receiver. I had a pair of Cambridge Soundworks computer speakers when I was like 16 and it would be interesting to own a pair again for nostalgic reasons but I would have no illusions about them actually being good speakers.

How do you figure that they are worth $300 - $350?

Yeah, no worries. I totally get it that some of you won't understand the appeal / value. Trust me, these are something special. Especially at $110 dollars.

I sold the last mint pair I had for $375 + shipping.

Already been offered $400 for them but not ready to let them go just yet. I only got them this afternoon.

Yeah the age has nothing to do with anything other than, what most people have now is made in China and as cheap as possible. Say yeah, yay for Chinese I guess?

As far as a comparison to the current 2.1 Klipsch that Best Buy sells ... well, there is none what - so - ever.

These are the best PC speaker ever made or that will ever be made. Not that you can't replicate the power and sound quality. You can, but it will cost you.

Don't worry SixFootDuo . I just grabbed a NAD 2600a amplifier off EBAY that supposedly needs its relays replaced. People got all quiet when I said that it needs repair and is 30 years old. So far it is working fine for me and sounds great! Supposedly it was designed to run speakers down to 2 ohm which sounds pretty cool for gear that is 30 years old.

Back in the 80's, my Polk SDA 2A's used to eat NAD amplifiers for lunch. I have no idea why. I loved their stuff back then though. Awesome value for the money.

And you are basing that comment on what? The setup I mentioned with the HT reciever was in the context of making more sense than computer speakers but is certainly not what I use.

So I'm going against the grain here and say well done sir! I would have bought them two. I have the 4.1 system from 2002 and still love it.

For anyone with the Z5500, I can tell you from first hand experience that you can use the Quintet III speakers from Klipsch in place of the Logitechs. I've been doing that for years, and it sounds much better.

No harm in picking up something you cherish for a good price. Some folks love collecting those silly expensive fantasy/sci-fi figures which I always see as a cry for help.

I picked up an Alienware Dell sitting on the driveway about 5 years ago with a note saying "For Council Trash Collection!" It was abut 7am and I just took it knowing there would be something worthwhile. I left the chair and computer desk.

It was fully complete except for the HDD.

    Q6600
    6GB ram
    2 x 8800GTX
    Blu ray drive
    800W PSU
    Fully lit LED case
    etc. etc.

The problem? One of the GPUs had blown. Other than that was a fully working machine.

Keep your eyes peeled at all times!

    You don't think cooling a 3960X with 2x 240 + 1x 480 rads in the loop is crazy enough? :p
A single 240 would have already been overkill. To the guy's credit though, the 3960X was OCed to 5GHz

SixFootDuo : Ignore the naysayers. Klipsch Promedia are damned fine speaker systems.
Would love to have a working set of Promedia 5.1 Ultras.

Have more than a dozen sets of Promedia 2.1 sets still running strong a decade later,
most of them in 4.2 configs.

My sub messed up and I tried to fix it, but to no avail. I still have the 4 satellites and I use two of them right now connected to a Denon stereo receiver that can handle 4-ohm speakers. Still sound fantastic! These pareid with a sound blaster Audigy back in the day was pure magic. I think I paid 150 for them on sale. First credit card purchase of my life and I still have them...most of them. Who can still say that today? :)

If I had 2$ to bet I would say yes... Nobody in their right mind that paid for all those goodies (And actually knows how to use them...) would let that go for that price...
As other said, either... (... clipped, no white angel here)... or move the components and I wouldn't even try to RMA anything in the event of... (Even lifetime warranty)...

Morally speaking, you should of asked receipt if you want to stay on the good side of the force...

Yeah, the guy never used it as I said.

No disrespect but you guys can't live life being scared of shit .... any type of shit. You win some you lose some. Depending on luck and your brains, you can normally come out ahead.

Been using it a few weeks now, amazing amazing sound. I have an older version tied in with AIMP of iZotope Ozone 3 I was able to buy new for $10 and with flac's the sound is incredible ... yeah there's not much ever going to beat the sound for the $110 I paid.

I also have another Ultra 5.1 in the box like new I'm saving for a backup. It's right next to my Sony w900 that's also new in the box.

Don't worry bro ... I keep myself well covered and taken care of.

It's almost sickening the crappy sound that comes from the new 2.1 Klipsch's that the Chinese have literally raped from the inside out compared to these things.

I've turned down a few offers so far, one legit, one that I suspect was just bs talk but still.

The cool thing about all of this is, you tweeners and millennials will never EVER go out and buy this stuff from under me. You guys are stuck on NEW and CHEAP, men hair buns, skinny jeans and vapping. GTFO.

ALL OF CRAIGSLIST ARE BELONG TO ME

I have had the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra's since they came out. I stopped using them about a year ago. I was in apartments for years and never could really use the speakers. I just used the little control pod as a headphone amp most of the time and that saved the components in the amp. I did buy that repair kit offered by someone on ebay that knows his stuff on that set of speakers.

If you intend on using it. You might look into buying that fan setup he has. I did the mod. Hooked a 120mm fan up to the power in amp and had it cooling the problem parts. I even bought the extra resistors and ... I think caps to solder in. I had the diagram laying around somewhere. Never got to that part but the fan cooling should be enough since I didn't use the speakers a whole lot.

I stopped using them because the headphone amp portion started delivering a bit of static.

Switched to Micca MB42x, Cheap Sound Appeal 100-T amp with headphone amp, and cheap 100watt 10inch sub. Honestly, this cheaper setup sounds better than the old Promedia's.

Just pulled the trigger on a set of Vanatoo Transparent Zero and suspect that will kick everything up a notch aswell. (using a Schiit Modi 2 Uber and Magni 2 Uber now)

Long story short, that is a great purchase for that price. If you plan on using it, i'd suggest looking into cooling that amp with a 120mm fan on the parts that need to be cooled. Should prevent all the problems that amp has.

There are also 4 100uf capacitors (one 16v one 35v) I think that are always on even when it's switched into headphone mode. If I replace those I think that might get rid of the hum in the headphone amp portion. Hmmmm don't have a pencil soldering iron or the pics that guy sent me a couple years ago of the exact caps. Do have the extra caps laying around.... Too lazy. The vanatoo's will be so good I won't care I guess.

If the guy that owned that set before you kept it on all the time, there is a good chance those caps are drying up and losing capacitance.

I've seen something like this before. My best friend got booted out of his mothers house after too many attitude dilemmas. She spoiled him and he had top of the line computer parts at that time. His mom doesn't know the difference between a $100 Walmart computer and a $5000 quad-titan system. She brought all his computer electronics to goodwill, probably got like $20 for $2000 worth of computer. Only found out well after the fact. This was like 15 years ago though in my high school days. Had a Z-5500 and everything else top of the line.

I have a set of Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1's in my basement that the amp blew out on (again) but don't have the heart to get rid of them yet. I dont know if I will ever fix the amp, but I always have that "maybe someday" attitude about it.

I am using some M-Audio av40's I picked up for free. They sound ok, but don't have the impact of the old Klipsch set.

When I lived in San Francisco, I would find some of the best tech shit on craigslist. I was spoiled for six years with some of stuff I purchased. Seattle and now DC both pale in comparison.
