For start here's my server:
http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1030524376&postcount=35
It's running account based sharing.

Now the questions:
1) Is there any programme that can tell me what account is accessing the files I'm sharing in real time? Right now I know some one is accessing the share only by looking at task manager and see that traffic has gone up a notch.

2) In the process of trimming down the OS for the weak CPU I kinda went Texas Chainsaw on the services. Now that I want to add VPN function I don't know what services are needed besides remote Access and Routing. Which other services needs to be on?

Theres one built into windows that you can use. You can right click on "My Computer" and click Manage. Then go to shared files. It's not exactly 'live' because Im pretty sure you have to refresh it manually. I have been searching for a third party tool myself, hopefully one with logging. The built in one may work for your needs.

edit: Just found this

Works like a dream! Thanks alot.

Any idea on the VPN bit? Or is there anything else I can butcher off the win service list?

Not from me. I left most of the services running that are on by default. The PC itself is only P2 450mhz with 640MB of ram. Works fine hosting Samba shares and running BPFTP.
