Monitor support for Scaling vs L/R Letterbox

Ive been searching for a simple answer to this but I must not be looking in the right places. I'm just curious how a widescreen monitor will handle 4:3 aspect ratio content (mainly the acer al2030wa). Will the source content only be stretched to 16:10 or will I have to ability to view it with black bars on the sides?

I'll still have my 4:3 CRT hooked up in tandem so I could always do any standard aspect things on there - its just good to know though...

If you have an Nvidia card, you should be able to go into your driver control panel and click it on fixed aspect ratio or centered timing..that will keep 4:3 content with black bars around it...
