Is it true that the low voltage mobile cpu will work on the standard socket a mobo? If so, could someone with a mobile athlon xp reply with their experience with the chips?

As far as I know it is true. Is it any better than a desktop? Not for the price it isn't.

A Mobile chip will work with your Abit, as you can see by my sig. The CPU is unlocked, runs at 1.45V, but will initially boot at 1.575 in a desktop mobo. It will default to 6x133, but you can set the config in any way you wish. FWIW, my XP-M2500+ was Prime-stable at 200x11 @ 1.55V
